We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Breyana Loreto a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Breyana, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
At Sexsi Sunless, our mission is to help people feel confident, empowered, and radiant in their own skin through customizable, sweat-resistant spray tans. But our mission goes far deeper than glowing skin—it’s about representation, self-love, and creating safe spaces for all bodies, shades, and stories.
As a proud Latina-owned business, Sexsi Sunless was born from the desire to see more diversity and inclusivity in the beauty industry. For years, I worked in salons where clients of color were often underserved or misunderstood when it came to spray tanning. I saw a gap—and I felt a calling. I wanted to create a business where every shade of beauty is celebrated and every client walks away feeling seen and beautiful.
This mission is deeply personal. Spray tanning helped me find my own confidence during difficult times in life. Now, I want to pass that feeling on—to show others that beauty isn’t one-size-fits-all and that sunless tanning can be tailored to fit you. Through this journey, I’ve met incredible women who’ve shared their stories, their insecurities, and their triumphs. That connection fuels my passion and makes the mission of Sexsi Sunless more than just business—it’s a movement.
Breyana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Breyana Loreto, and I’m the founder of Sexsi Sunless, a Latina-owned mobile and in-studio spray tanning business based in Los Angeles. I’ve been in the sunless tanning industry for over nine years, but my passion for beauty and helping others feel confident started long before that. I got my start at my aunt’s tanning salon when I was just 19 years old. What began as a job quickly turned into a lifelong career path and creative outlet that allowed me to empower others—especially women—to feel their best from the inside out.
Over the years, I worked my way up from a technician to salon manager, gaining experience in customer service, tanning techniques, social media marketing, and studio operations. When that chapter closed, I knew it was time to create something of my own—something inclusive, elevated, and built with intention. That’s how Sexsi Sunless was born.
At Sexsi Sunless, I offer custom, sweat-resistant spray tans that are tailored to each client’s skin tone, lifestyle, and preferences. I provide both mobile services across LA and in-studio appointments at my location in South Gate. My tans are perfect for everything from weddings, vacations, and photoshoots to just wanting to feel like that girl every day. But beyond just the glow, I help clients feel empowered, comfortable, and seen—especially those who may not have always felt represented in traditional beauty spaces.
What sets my brand apart is the personalized experience I offer. I take the time to educate each client on proper prep and aftercare, ensure their tan is natural-looking and streak-free, and create a judgment-free zone where all bodies and skin tones are celebrated. I don’t rush the process—I elevate it. My goal is to help every person walk out feeling confident, sexy, and worthy.
I’m most proud of building this business from the ground up—especially as a woman of color in an industry that hasn’t always been inclusive. I want potential clients and followers to know that Sexsi Sunless is more than just a tan—it’s an experience, a vibe, and a community rooted in confidence, creativity, and self-love.
Any advice for managing a team?
My advice for managing a team and maintaining high morale starts with leading by example and creating a culture of respect, support, and open communication. People do their best work when they feel seen, heard, and appreciated—not just for their skills, but for who they are.
I believe in empowering my team by trusting them with responsibility, recognizing their strengths, and offering mentorship when needed. It’s important to check in—not just on tasks, but on how they’re feeling, both personally and professionally. A simple “How are you doing today?” goes a long way in building trust and loyalty.
I also make it a priority to celebrate wins—big or small—and encourage creativity. When your team feels like they’re part of the vision, not just working under it, morale stays high and motivation stays strong. At the end of the day, it’s about creating an environment where everyone feels valued and inspired to grow together.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my audience on social media didn’t happen overnight—it was a mix of consistency, authenticity, and connection. In the beginning, I focused on sharing real results, client transformations, behind-the-scenes moments, and educational content. I wanted people to not only see the quality of my work, but to get to know me—the person behind the brand.
I showed up consistently, even when my following was small. I engaged with my community, answered DMs, commented back, and made sure people felt like they were part of something. I also wasn’t afraid to show the hustle, the growth, and the learning curves along the way. People connect with real, not just polished.
If you’re just starting out, my biggest advice is: show up as yourself. Don’t wait until everything is “perfect” to start posting. Share your passion, your knowledge, and your journey. Be consistent, interact with your audience, and use your voice to tell your story—because nobody can replicate you. And remember: your vibe attracts your tribe. Build community over chasing numbers. The right people will find you if you’re showing up with purpose and heart.
