We recently connected with Brettina Davis and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brettina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I first knew I wanted to pursue a creative past in childhood. I often developed and put on shows for family members with my sisters. We also used art as a coping mechanism when things got hard.

Brettina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Brettina Davis, I’m an Actor | Advocate | and Storyteller, and my mission is to tell stories that help people heal. Acting and storytelling have always been a driving force in my life. So many times, the art of acting kept me and my siblings safe when things were hard to deal with at home. I myself have had healing moments or realizations from films I’ve watched. I Assistant Directed A Jumping Off Point with Director Shà Cage. I’ve been to a few local film festivals, and I have recently directed my own film called “Community Therapy.”
My stories come from my deep passion for neurodivergent, C-PTSD, and healing storytelling. Through my artistry, I hope to raise awareness and provide people with resources. In my day job I have eight years experience in marketing, specifically social media strategy. I have one Webby Award and have been nominated for a Shorty award in this field.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to tell more stories from the black neurodivergent perspective and help people see mental health differently. I also want to earn enough money and have a network of work for family and friends to live our passions without worries under capitalism.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience during the pandemic, because I wanted to face my fears around caring too much about what other people think. I remember I was inspired to do so by one of my husband’s former co-workers, Cay. I had reached out to them to interview them about BPD, and they asked if I would want to talk about having BPD as well. I said no, and they replied “why not.”
That simple conversation led to me asking myself the same thing. I knew the answer was fear. To face my fear I started making content about having Borderline Personality Disorder. Even though it was scary, I found a community. I built my social media presence by facing my fears and being myself.
