Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brett Wheeless. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brett, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
Nine years ago, one of the worst jobs I ever had was selling insurance over the phone. Nothing wrong with selling insurance, however when I took the job I didn’t do much research and it was more based on “the grass is greener on the other side” mindset.
Spoiler alert: the grass was not greener. The work culture was abysmal, I wasn’t growing as a person, and the goal of sales seemed more or less deceitful. I was blessed with minor success in my first two months but was fired the week before Christmas. I drove to the beach and wrote down mistakes I made to learn from moving forward.
Fast forward nine years, I am so grateful for that insurance job for all the lessons it taught me in running our health business that my incredible wife and I have been privileged to run! We’ve been blessed with the opportunity to change hundreds of clients lives and to raise our 2 boys in San Diego. I’ve highlighted a few of the most important lessons below:
1. Life is too short to work 50+ hours a week at a job you despise
– is this career shaping you into the man/ woman you want to be?
2. No matter how bad it is it could always be worse
-always have a positive mindset, an attitude of gratitude
3. The grass is green where you water it
– everybody wants the next hot thing right now, trust the process and realize that anything worth doing takes time and sacrifice to do it right

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Chelsey and I started Wheeless Fitness back in 2020 during COVID less than a year after being married, at a time where the world seemed to be collapsing in on itself. We left the gym we were training at because it was failing and we had no other choice.
Fast forward 4 years later, and we have had the opportunity to help loads of clients with their fitness, pain, injuries, nutrition, and their overall health.
I’m most proud of our client relationships and client success stories, people who have quite literally had their lives changed, like we have, with the introduction of a disciplined health strategy.
What separates us from others is our experience with client populations of business professionals, knowing what works and what doesn’t, as well as our one on one focus with our clients.
Mainly what I want potential clients and future partners to know is quick fixes a or bandaids on bullet holes, rarely accomplish anything. Making actual change is built into the discipline of a long term strategy and action plan over the course of time.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
My business partner is my wonderful wife, my queen, Chelsey Wheeless.
We met at the gym, when she was doing her training interview, and I walked over between the dumbbells to let her know “by the way my name is Brett.” Thankfully, we were new hires together and she gave me another shot. We got to become friends first, and she was and to this day still is, the kindest, toughest, most beautiful, most loyal, and incredible woman I have ever met.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Word of mouth. We’re not very gifted with marketing traits, however it’s always been our belief that if we be the absolute best trainers we can be, and make every client session feel like they’re winning the Super Bowl, then we’ll be able to make it in the health business.
