Brett, appreciate you joining us today. So, what do you think about family businesses? Would you want your children or other family members to one day join your business?

Running a business is a full time job. A lot of days it’s more than full time. Managing clients, customers, inventory, invoices, expenses and so much more can be an enormous drain on my time. It can become a burden on a family. Even more so when I am business partners with my wife. We both currently put in 40 hours a week into our business. With that commitment we are constantly looking for ways to become more efficient and spend less hours on our business. We have two young boys that love to spend time with us. We constantly aim to get away from work and spend time enjoying the outdoors, traveling, learning, and playing with them. We all work together as a team to make this dream possible and we love every minute of it.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

KC Laser Co began with a simple gift I purchased for my parents. It was a laser engraved lazy susan. From there I decided that I loved the idea of creating unique gifts customized for our customers. Items that would be cherished for years and generations. I purchased a laser to put in the garage within a few months. I spent months learning how to run it more efficiently. To figure out how to create items for customers and get the quality of results that I was happy with. It was a constant process of learning, relearning, and always moving forward.

Through trial and error we have learned so much. We have failed at many items and projects but we have learned far more from those failures. With any failure we are constantly looking at how we can improve from here.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

We have a pretty simple set of principles when it comes to helping our customers. To stand apart and make an impact with our clients we focus on five characteristics that we can tie directly back to the word of God. Honesty, generosity, trustworthiness, hard work, and serving our customers. Doing these five things and keeping to them has helped us to make long term relationships with our customers and continue to grow alongside them.
