Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brett Fitzpatrick. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brett, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Before I started MUSIC//FOR//SAD//PEOPLE I was in four different bands and got tired of writing about meaningless subjects. I had heard so many people talk about how music saved them that I decided to try to write music with the intention of saving people. I started MUSIC//FOR//SAD//PEOPLE as it is now with the full intention to lower the youth suicide rate and help the people that come after me with matters I have already gone through.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are Brett and Angel Fitzpatrick, the sole members of the band MUSIC//FOR//SAD//PEOPLE. We are a self produced indie alt rock band. Brett credits music as saving his life, and wanted to make music with the intention of saving lives. If all the other bands out there wrote music just to get their own thoughts out of their head and it happened to help people, imagine what writing with the intent of helping could do.
Brett writes music about himself, for you.
In April we put out our first album called //SELF-TITLED// it was entirely self produced and self funded. As of right now the album is approaching half a million streams across all platforms.
One thing we want newcomers and new fans to know is that if you’re an outcast you belong here with us. You belong at a MUSIC//FOR//SAD//PEOPLE show. We are all lonely outcasts, but together we can be a little less lonely.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Artists support artists. Instead of going to a sold out show downtown, support a small local artists having a show near you. That small artist is working hard to get to the point where they can sell out an arena, and getting local support goes a long way and it deeply valued. You don’t have to have to go to every show, that’s impossible to ask of anyone. If you can’t make it out doing things like sharing flyers, telling your friends, or streaming someone’s music is greatly valued.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
It doesn’t always cost money to support a creative. Sometimes it’s as simple as following, streaming, liking, or sharing to someone you know would enjoy the content. This is especially true when someone is just starting out. Most streaming apps are free, apps like instagram where a lot of individuals share their art or photography are also free.
Following, liking, commenting, sharing, telling your friends are all so important to helping someone get where they want or need to be.
It’s bothersome when someone you have in your life won’t even look at what you create, or won’t even listen to a song.
The product or content someone puts out is the result of countless hours of hard work, getting anything back from it means a lot.
