We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brett Buehler a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brett , thanks for joining us today. Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
The best boss I’ve ever had by far has been myself. However, I’m not entirely sure it would have been possible without having some extremely strong and positive literary and musical heroes. I believe in that influence more than the people I’ve actually worked with in person. That being said, I’ve worked with some exceptionally tough and brilliant people in the Fire Department, however none of whom were my direct boss in any way.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
That’s a lot of questions in one, but I’ll be as cogent as I can. Musically, I’ve always loved guitar and songwriting; it’s the emotion of it all that I thrive on. I’d like to live in a world with a medium to express it. In media/podcasting, I have always been driven by the pay-it-forward mentality. And not for the sake of quid pro quo. For years, I’ve been a paramedic because I believe altruism is paramount to a healthy mind, body, and society. I also enjoy videography as another medium to create and showcase other people’s art. If I solve problems in these fields, it is because I am not business-minded, or at least I do not place business before people. People first, money second. If I want people to know anything about any of my projects, it is that in the end, I hope to be a positive influence on the zeitgeist that I am currently apart of and on my aforementioned business principles. If I am proud of any of my work so far, it is a song called “The Walls” by my band The Hollow Truths.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
As a paramedic, I’ve done my best to help as many people as I can. I’ve also witnessed a lot of people suffer in ways I couldn’t have imagined, and it has taken an immense toll on my mental health. Therefore, I have taken a step back to initiate a sort of metamorphosis. It has not been an easy transition to embark on a new start in my 30s in certain fields where I have had no formal training, but it has been rewarding. My mission is to continue my growth in those creative areas and also to contribute to healing.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Feed my soul, keep myself sane, and assist in the raising of the consciousness of the planet. (woo woo I know).
