Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Breshayla Singleton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Breshayla, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
I got my very first client by finally promoting my business on social media. I received a message on twitter stating that she would like to book my services, that’s when my prices were less than $50. I made flyers on Canva and added hashtags to my posts. I also added people that were local and sent them my flyers in their messages.
Breshayla, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Breshayla Singleton, a 26 year old professional makeup artist located in Pike Road, AL. I’ve been in the makeup industry for 2 years and I specialize in natural and soft glam makeup. What sets me apart from other makeup artist is my zen vibe and style of makeup.
I got where I am today just by having faith. When you want to start something you just have to start. I feel as if waiting for the right time is time wasted, just start! I invested into my business by buying a class, better products, marketing tools, and supplies. Starting any business isn’t easy, it takes hard work, dedication and sometimes sleepless nights. Sometimes you may feel like you won’t to give up but I believe you’ll always return to something you’re passionate about. The lessons I learned as a young entrepreneur is to just keep going and don’t compare your business to others and everyone won’t support. Sometimes family won’t support your business but that doesn’t mean you give up, don’t! Your family isn’t your target audience. Pray over yourself and your business and continue to have faith!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy that helped me grow my clientele has been by promoting/posting my work consistently and reaching out to influencers and college students by doing their makeup free of charge for exchange of promo. I also collaborate with other business owners in my area. When it’s your passion it’s not always about the money, sometimes you have to work for free for more exposure!
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Yes, Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki and The Power of The Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy. I definitely recommend these books!
