We recently connected with Breonna Gildon Wright and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Breonna, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Honestly, I never thought about seriously taking a creative path until one of my nieces encouraged me to create a TikTok account. At the time, I had been on Facebook and Instagram for a few years. I would post quotes, a video, or a photo every once in a while. I also remember I ‘d recently said a prayer asking God how I could encourage the younger generation about Christ. When my niece approached me, my initial response was ‘Girl, what am I going to do on TikTok? TikTok is for kids!’ Then, I was immediately reminded of the prayer I prayed. As a result, I created the TikTok account and it’s been an amazing journey of spreading the gospel of Christ ever since!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
It all started with a prayer. Seriously. Before creating content on social media and starting a business to empower women all I had was a prayer! The prayer was simple: ‘God, I want to encourage women and people to see you. I want to use my story and gifts to encourage people.’ At the time, I had seriously made the decision to pursue Christ! I was at a point in my life where every year I kept arriving at a place of discomfort and defeat. I kept trying to do life my own way and I wanted something different. Frankly, I was tired! I wanted better. I wanted better for myself. I wanted to also encourage the people around me to want better than the norm! Family. Friends. etc. So, I made the decision to try life God’s way!
Shortly after, I was inspired to blog my spiritual journey by creating a blog, Empower Her Blog. Every Wednesday, I would be inspired to write only one blog post by noon. In response, people began to follow and share their journeys on the blog too! In 2021, the prayer expanded more when the blog turned into a business with Empower Her Ministries, LLC. Since then, the one step of faith (belief + evidence = divine results) turned into a business/ministry and continues to impact thousands of women and men around the world daily! Though God allowed me to accomplish so much, I did not actually consider the impact until after creating a TikTok account and posting on the platform. Within a few months of posting my younger nieces and nephews were inspired in their faith journeys. The response encouraged me to start sharing more content and create products such as Empower Her Cards, the first faith-based affirmation cards for women and Empower Her Coloring book, a coloring book created to build faith with design.
Currently, I now added podcasting to the creative resume! Every Monday, a new episode is uploaded on Empower Her Ministries podcast to all podcast platforms. The podcast is to help women grow stronger in their faith!
At the end of the day, everything I do is really to spread the gospel. No matter the platform, no matter the product, I create because I believe I was created by The Creator, God, to create! My only prayer is I will continue to empower others to do the same, create with faith!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspects of being a creative is any time one of my nieces, nephews, or siblings are encouraged by a post/product/podcast. The other is whenever someone shares they were inspired by one of my posts/product/podcast in their faith journey. At the end of day, for me, creating is all about spreading the gospel. If someone grows closer in their faith with God because of something I’ve created that’s a win!

Have you ever had to pivot?
In the first year of starting Empower Her Ministries, our world faced a pandemic. We were literally planning months prior to create an event series Empower Her Meet Up. The event series ended up being postponed due to national regulations. We learned how to pivot and started to create innovative ways to keep our Tribe aka Honey Bunches engaged. What we thought was the end of our business actually turned into something greater!
