We recently connected with Breona Byers and have shared our conversation below.
Breona, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Every passionate artist or creative has a defining moment. In this moment, there’s a realization that shifts the perspective and elevates one’s craft. For me, that moment came when I learned to embrace my unique journey as a nail technician, grow at my own pace and thrive in my why.
When beginning my career as a self taught nail technician, I found myself constantly comparing my work to those I admired online. I wanted my designs to look like theirs, my skills to mirror theirs, and my success to follow their path. But the more I tried to fit into a mold, the more I felt disconnected from my passion and my true reasoning behind beginning nails. I began doing my own nails to aid in my confidence as I suffered from a nail biting disorder: Onychophagia; and overtime I figured it would be a great way to make money as a side hustle as well.
As I then set out on a monetary journey into doing nails, I realized 3 years in that I wasn’t growing; I was imitating. It’s one thing to have work that looks good, but if there’s no retention, education or healthy nail growth, there’s no true quality in the nail service for the client long term. A person can go to any quick, fast nail shop for nail services, but I wanted to be a service provider who showcases a difference through quality, knowledge and genuine care of ones overall nail and foot health.
The turning point in my nail journey came when I realized that true success isn’t about replication—it’s about growth and evolution. I made a conscious effort to focus on growing my skills, understanding more about the intricacies and health of doing nails while embracing the artistry that comes with being a true professional.
With this shift in mindset, I made another important decision: to prioritize care and building relationships over money. I understood that being a great nail technician wasn’t just about the service I provided but also about the experience and trust I built with my clients. This led me to rebrand my business in a way that aligned with my values to put health and client safety first.
I invested in additional credentials to expand my expertise surrounding nail health; becoming a Certified Medical Nail Technician and a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant. I upgraded my tools and products to ensure precision and efficiency within my work, and I refined my workspace to create a comfortable, high-quality environment for myself and my future clients. Every choice I make within my nail journey is with the goal to become a service provider known for individuality, creativity, quality and care rather than one solely focused on media views and profit.
Looking back, this defining moment was more than just a career shift—it was a personal transformation. It reminded me that my journey is mine alone and should not be imitated or replicated through the lens of others. It also reminded me that true fulfillment comes from authenticity, dedication, and a commitment to constant education and growth. My why consists of wanting to make a difference in the nail industry by incorporating important healthcare habits into individual nail routines to not only make my clients cosmetically feel good, but for them to physically feel good long term as well. I want my future clients to know that I care and together, quality nail care truly takes teamwork.
I now stand confidently in my defining moment, knowing that I am not just a nail technician, but a nail professional who will continue to deliver knowledge, quality skills and care with every service I provide.

Breona, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a licensed/certified medical nail technician with 5+ years of experience in the nail industry, My services include basic manicures, pedicures, nail art, acrylic and gel nail extensions. I also specialize as a medical nail technician; working with individuals with special nail concerns such as diabetes, ingrown nails or fungal infections. My goal is to help, educate and provide individuals with safe and quality nail care services while gaining community through creativity and collaboration.
What sets me apart from others is my passion for nail health and ensuring nail retention and safe services before anything else. I want my potential clients to know that I am educated in my craft with a goal to provide comfortable services based on ones individual needs. I’ve taken a lot of time away to master my skills, rebrand my values, self educate myself and ensure I can give the most efficient and effective services in a timely manner.
I will begin servicing full time again this summer 2025 and I believe its important to create a collaborative and comprehensive service atmosphere to ensure clients leave happy, healthy and with a newfound bond with myself as the service provider.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe being authentic and passionate about my nail journey helps to build my reputation within my community as I only showcase my constant ambition and drive to grow throughout my journey. My dedication and perseverance for the love of nails hasn’t changed and I continue to find ways to elevate my skills and grow as a professional. I also value building connections, networking and maintaining a positive rapport with my clients which I hope will lead to effective collaborations and client longevity.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If I could go back I would choose to be a nail technician again as it has opened many doors for me throughout the last 5 years. I have been able to watch myself grow in my skills and gain accolades. Ive been able to work alongside nail technicians, nail artists and medical professionals who have taught me endless things that have contributed to my growth. I was able to discover the specialty of podiatry, learning a new scope I enjoy within the medical field. I have serviced over hundreds of people within my home suite and working in podiatry combined, meeting and building connections with so many new people. I have been able to travel and showcase my nail brand throughout my online platforms and last, I’ve been able to grow as a person, a mother, healthcare hero and a nail professional to see the value In my talents and skills to utilize them to help people in need.
Being a nail technician has helped me tap into my creativity and embrace the value of art and its presence, inspiring artistic visions and challenges for myself. Being a nail technician shows me the rewards of having a dream and the positive impact it can have on not only myself but on my community as well. My biggest saying is that I only have dreams of spending my days making a positive impact in the world in some way, even in the littlest ways.
