We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brent Rassi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brent below.
Brent, appreciate you joining us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your professional career?
My profession in Chiropractic began a few months before COVID started. As a new physician, you worry about telling patients the right things, creating the best treatment plan, writing errorless notes, etc. As I was pushing through all of these “firsts”, COVID hit. This added so many new struggles along with what I was experiencing. The most important lesson I took from this experience was how to ADAPT. There was a period of time where our clinics were closed. So many people were still in pain, but they had to stay home. I adapted and opened up Rassi Mobile Chiropractic. I figured, if people can’t come to me, maybe I can go to them! The world is always changing, a really important lesson is learning to adapt to the changes. By doing this, I’ve been able to successfully help more people in my community and help educate people through social media. These are all amazing things that have been developed through adapting.
Brent, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My Chiropractic journey starts in 2013, where I was doing my undergraduate studies at St. Ambrose University. I was not feeling well this particular week. It was truly, “the worst headache I’ve ever had in my life”. By the way, if you ever hear that phrase from someone, take it seriously and have them get checked by a medical provider! You will see why in a few sentences…I was found passed out in my front yard by a neighbor. When they approached me, my face was bloody from having a seizure, I could barely walk, and I could not form any type of sentence. I was taken to the local hospital and they did some tests. At that time, they could not find anything wrong and I was released and taken home by my parents. That night, I was found walking around the house by my mother and I was very disoriented and not speaking full sentences. Luckily, my mother is a Nurse Practitioner in a Neurological Unit and she knew to admit me to the hospital right away. More tests were done and they found that half of my brain was swollen. The swelling was increasing at a rapid rate and they induced me into a coma. I was diagnosed with viral meningo-encephalitis, which is a big fancy term for brain swelling. When I woke up from the coma after 5 days, the intensive treatment began. I was put through occupational therapy, physical therapy, neurology, chiropractic, and nutrition. It took a full-team effort to get me where I am today, but by the grace of God, I made a full recovery. The stats show that only 2% of patients that had/have my particular virus, make a full recovery. I owe it to my family, friends, and all the healthcare providers that were a part of my treatment.
I noticed much of my improvement with chiropractic and nutrition. I felt like I was improving at a much greater pace after seeing the chiropractor. Seeing how I was improving and how patients would walk in with pain, and leave without, I knew that this was something I wanted to pursue for my career. I went from having a 2% chance to make a full recovery in 2013, to becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic in 2019. Today, I am helping 100’s of patients each week live better quality of lives. The hardships I experienced made me into the Doctor I am today!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Social Media! TikTok has been a huge success for my business and brand. Creating content that is helpful and beneficial for people has grown my following and brought business into the clinic. The response in my community has been incredible. It’s amazing how a short video can influence someone’s postural habits, or change the way they’ve been stretching, or give someone the courage to start their chiropractic journey. Social Media has given me an “expert/celebrity” title in my market. If you’re not all in on social media, you’re losing out! We can all help more people than ever before!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
EDUCATION. Educate your community however you can. Think about things that can benefit your targeted clientele, and how you can effectively spread that information out, whether it be through social media, commercials, lunch talks, etc. You have to change your mindset from “how much money can this make me”, to “how can I educate as many people as I can”? Once you have that mindset, business booms and you’re making your community so much better!
