We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brent Fannin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brent, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
While living in Florida for the past ten years or so, I’ve been an animal trainer, zookeeper, and environmental educator in most major theme parks in the South. Working with so many different people and different types of animals was incredibly rewarding and I consider myself lucky to have done it. But issues with chronic pain eventually removed my ability to work with animals. Around that time, I met the most incredible person. She was there for me through some of the worst times of my life, and when the time came for her to accept a new career opportunity and move to Atlanta, she invited me to come with her.
Although I get nostalgic now and then, I couldn’t be happier that I took the risk to move to a new city, marry the most incredible woman I know, and change careers entirely. I have an amazing life in a wonderful city with an incredible partner (and the perfect dog)…all because I was willing to take a risk.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
When I’m not working part time teaching kids about science at the Dunwoody Nature Center, I’m a drone pilot. I specialize in real estate photos and videos, and (bragging here a little bit) I have a fantastic eye for aerial cinematography.
As technology gets better and more affordable, almost anyone can pick up a drone and take some pictures. But I’ve dedicated the last couple of years to mastering the craft so I can exceed the average person’s ability and deliver a great view no matter what project I’m flying for.

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFT’s are the future! No, I don’t mean the laughable JPEG versions. The technology behind the ridiculous use of NFT’s to buy and sell artwork is really what’s important. It’s an incredibly complex technology, but one day, almost every asset we use in our daily lives will be based on an NFT.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Kindness. I don’t mean just smiling and delivering a product. I’m talking about truly connecting with people. Every single business opportunity I’ve had has been word of mouth. Because when you take the time to really connect with someone, they’ll remember you. And they won’t hesitate to send a friend your way.
