We recently connected with Brent & Chelsea Lang and have shared our conversation below.
Brent & Chelsea, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
As content creators, one of the biggest risks we’ve ever taken was deciding to put ourselves out there and share our stories with the world.
When we first started creating travel content, we weren’t professional influencers, photographers, or full-time travelers. We were simply two people with full-time jobs who loved exploring the world and finding ways to travel on a budget. We believed there were other people like us who wanted to see more of the world but felt limited by time, money, and everyday responsibilities.
The risk wasn’t financial or physical, it was personal. Publishing content meant opening ourselves up to judgment from strangers, coworkers, friends, and family. We worried that nobody would care about what we had to say, or worse, that people would criticize us for saying it. It’s easy to stay comfortable and keep your ideas to yourself; it’s much harder to press “post” and see what happens.
Despite those fears, we decided to take the leap. We started sharing travel tips, budget hacks, destination guides, and funny moments from our adventures. At first, most of our support came from friends and family, but over time our audience began to grow. As more people discovered our content, we realized that our experiences were resonating with travelers facing the same challenges we had.
Of course, not every comment has been positive. The internet can be a tough place, and criticism comes with putting yourself in the public eye. But the overwhelming majority of the feedback has been positive. We’ve connected with people from around the world, helped travelers plan unforgettable trips, and built a community around the idea that travel is possible even when life is busy.
Looking back, taking that first step and believing in ourselves was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. What started as a passion project has grown into a platform that allows us to inspire others, collaborate with incredible brands, and create opportunities we never imagined. None of that would have happened if we hadn’t been willing to take the risk of sharing our story.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
We’re Brent and Chelsea, a married couple who share our passion for travel while balancing full-time careers and everyday responsibilities via our travel vlog BCVoyages. Our creative point of view was born from a simple belief: you don’t have to quit your job, become a full-time influencer, or have an unlimited budget to see the world..
Like many people, we had the notion that travel was something you did when you had more money, more vacation time, or more freedom. We decided to challenge that mindset by finding creative ways to maximize our time off, stretch our travel budgets, and prioritize new experiences to get us out of our comfort zone.
What started as documenting our own adventures quickly evolved into a platform dedicated to helping others do the same. Through BCVoyages, we create travel guides, destination reviews, budget tips, theme park content, travel hacks, and entertaining social media content designed to inspire people to get out and explore the world, regardless of their circumstances.
Our content serves travelers who may feel overwhelmed by the cost and complexity of travel planning. We help solve questions like: How can I afford this trip? Is this experience worth the money? What hidden gems should I prioritize? How can I maximize a long weekend or limited vacation days? We aim to provide honest, practical advice that helps people travel smarter and create memorable experiences without breaking the bank.
What sets us apart is authenticity. We aren’t luxury travelers flying on private jets or staying exclusively in five-star resorts. We’re real people making real (sometimes bad) travel decisions. When we review a destination, attraction, hotel, or experience, we’re evaluating it through the lens of everyday travelers who want value for their time and money. We celebrate both bucket-list experiences and affordable hidden gems because we believe great travel comes in many forms.
One of the things we’re most proud of is the community we’ve built. Over the years, we’ve connected with travelers from around the world who share our belief that travel should be accessible to all. Hearing from followers who booked their first international trip, discovered a destination they never considered, or saved money using one of our recommendations reminds us why we started creating content in the first place.
We’ve also been fortunate to partner with tourism boards, travel brands, attractions, and hospitality companies that align with our mission. These collaborations allow us to continue creating valuable content while maintaining the transparency and trust our audience has come to expect.
At its core, BCVoyages is about showing people that adventure doesn’t have to wait! Whether it’s a weekend getaway, a dream international vacation, or a hidden gem in your own backyard, we want our audience to know that meaningful travel is possible. Our goal is to inspire people to stop putting their travel dreams on hold and start creating memories.
If there’s one thing we want people to remember about BCVoyages, it’s this: the world is more accessible than you think, and right now is the perfect time to start exploring it.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building our audience on social media didn’t happen overnight. Like most creators, we started with a small group of friends and family following along on our adventures. Instead of chasing every trend, we focused on consistently sharing travel content that aligned with our mission: helping people travel more while balancing full-time jobs, budgets, and everyday responsibilities. Over time, that consistency helped us build trust and attract an audience that connected with our message.
One of the biggest factors in our growth has been engaging with our audience. We make an effort to respond to comments, answer questions, go live, and have genuine conversations with our followers. Social media is meant to be just that: social, and some of our strongest community relationships started with a simple reply or DM. By listening to our audience, we’ve been able to create content that provides real value while strengthening those connections.
For anyone just starting out, our biggest advice is to stay consistent and stay true to your vision. It’s easy to get distracted by what everyone else is doing, but long-term growth comes from creating content that reflects your unique perspective and sticking to your content pillars. Focus on serving your audience, keep showing up even when growth feels slow, and remember that building a loyal community is far more valuable than chasing viral moments.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Our best source of new clients has been the content itself. As we’ve consistently shared travel tips, destination guides, budget hacks, and honest reviews, we’ve attracted brands that align with our audience and values. Many of our partnerships have come from hotels, attractions, tourism orgs, and travel experience providers like Get Your Guide discovering our content and reaching out because they saw how we engage with travelers who are actively looking for recommendations and inspiration.
We’ve also found that some of the strongest opportunities come directly from our community. Followers frequently reach out with questions about trip planning and destinations we’ve featured. Those conversations often lead to referrals, recommendations, and introductions to brands looking to connect with travelers in an authentic way.
The biggest lesson we’ve learned is that creating helpful, trustworthy content is the best form of marketing. When you consistently provide value to your audience, opportunities tend to follow. By staying focused on helping people travel smarter and make the most of their time and budget, we’ve been able to build relationships with both travelers and brands that share the same mission.
