We recently connected with Brent Baxter and have shared our conversation below.
Brent, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?
The absolute most important area of focus for any business owner is Customer Service. In the production world clients have a large pool of businesses to choose from, we ensure customers are provided with the best experiance so we can keep them coming back for years to come. Customer Service includes transparency, timely communication and hitting deadlines consistently. We know there are production companies in the market that offer excellent products, but they will never match the connection we create with a client. We are not looking for one time transactions, we want to build a life long customer.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Side B Productions is an Emmy award winning production company based out of Dallas Texas. We are a team of passionate creatives dedicated to delivering high-quality content that engages, entertains, and informs your audience. With years of experience in video / photography production, we have honed our skills to produce visually stunning and compelling stories that resonate with viewers.
Side B Productions was established in 2018 after I chose to leave a very lucrative career in corporate banking. I had been very passionate and even worked as a part time photographer on the weekends and nights while still operating as a bank VP during the week. At the age of 39 I decided it was time for a change, here we are today offering full production services.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Transitioning from a rigid corporate back ground into a creative field I had to unlearn my general level of intensity. Banking is black and white for the most part, strict deadlines and exact guidelines are required to be followed. The creative world is flexible in so many ways, personalities differ a lot! I personally have had to retrain myself to be more patient and flexible.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Leadership is extremely important to a successful team, knowing your team members and how to speak each of their languages is key. Surrounding yourself with people you can trust and also learn from has been a winning recipe for us. The creative world is competitive, egos get in the way a lot from what I have seen. Our team is built on trust, partnership and building one another up always. We bring new people in from time to time, but there are many boxes they must check before we add them onto our longterm roster. We may find someone green but motivated with the right attitude and that is someone we are excited to work with, you could be the best camera operator on the planet but if your personality doesn’t fit with our values it will not be a good fit.
