We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brennah Rosenthal. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brennah below.
Alright, Brennah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Why ‘Great Escape’? Brennah named her business after a forever climbing project in Clear Creek Canyon “The Great Escape.” For years she went out to complete this climb, trying every move countless times, and still hasn’t completed it. She’s always had the drive to go out and try it over and over again, because she loves the style and extraordinary view from the climb. It’s challenging, rewarding, scary, frustrating which are all very similar qualities to starting and maintaining a business. She wanted Great Escape Media to be a “forever project” just like this climb, continuing to grow and evolve even with challenges along the way. The ‘Escape’ part brings even more meaning because Brennah had daydreamed about “escaping” full time jobs to start her own company for years. Now that the dream has become a reality, she welcomes you to be a part of it.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My love for photography and imagery started at a young age when I attended summer camp. My camp had a photography department and even a dark room and I found myself signing up to attend as many of the photography activities as I could. I think it at first it was because the darkroom was one of the only places that had air conditioning, but I grew to love the craft even if it was due to escaping the heat. From there I made it a priority to make photography a huge part of my high school journey and then attended the Rochester Institute of Technology majoring in Advertising Photography. This program as well as starting and running a rock climbing team crafted me into a producer.
At Great Escape we provide production services for brands, agencies and more! We help people tell their brand and product stories through videos and photos.
For clients that are having trouble finding their place in the crowded online space, we help them create assets for social media, websites and more. Our main goal is for our clients to feel like they have someone to work with that will help them through their sticking points, but to also have someone they feel as comfortable talking to as they do a friend or family member.
One of the things I am most proud of is being a women business owner and producer in a male-dominant space.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Every full time job I worked before starting Great Escape Media, I would spend my nights and weekends having a side hustle. I was always so afraid to leave the security of a full time job, but I finally started talking with others who had started their own businesses and was quickly convinced that I could turn my side hustle into a full time hustle.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
One of the best source of new clients for me has been through word of mouth and my shared office space (both go hand-in-hand). About a month into starting Great Escape Media, I got sick of working out of my basement and gave in to my friend and now office-mate, Adam Vicarel to start paying rent for a desk in a shared office space. Since moving in there the flow of work and referrals hasn’t stopped.
