We were lucky to catch up with Brenna Lee Olsen recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Brenna, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?

I have been a corporate apparel designer for about 15 years. Having a career that marries my love of creativity is such a blessing; however, I got to a point that I wondered what something I created on my own would look like. Through a process of experimentation, visiting galleries and researching other fine art I created my own signature style and figured out the feelings that I want to evoke with my art.

Brenna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I create fine art that aims to bring the calm of nature and natural materials into an indoor space. All of my pieces are based in concrete to blend soft watercolor effects with high intensity texture. I was most proud when a customer purchased two pieces and said she planned on enjoying in her home and then passing along to her daughters some day. That is when it hit me that I was creating pieces that could be enjoyed by generations!!

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?

I have made it a point to be inspired by multiple sources of inspiration to ensure my works are unique and special. I am inspired by hotels, the sea, textiles and everyday life. I am self taught and have learned many techniques from YouTube videos, Instagram, master classes and runway.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?

Being an artist can be difficult financially. You have to invest in expensive materials, experiment pieces and time. Please support local artists by purchasing their art, following their social media, giving them complements and recommending their work to others.
