We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brenique Reed a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brenique thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I started my content creation right on time. I do not wish I can change anything about my journey. I believe everyone has their time and when it’s your time there is nothing anyone can do about it. You just have to believe in yourself. Starting sooner would have been a disaster because I was still finding myself and the internet would have definitely made me quit because we know how people can get in those comments. Starting later, well I would have not started because I would have really gotten too comfortable at my job and continued to use fear as an excuse. I started content creation 3 years ago when I was a middle school teacher. At first it was for fun, but once I received the positive feedback I was like hey let me take this more serious. Being a teacher I was pouring positivity into my students daily and I’m like why not pour it into the world.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a funny fitness influencer/content creator. I make comedy about the gym and I also speak positivly into the world. Over 15 years ago I modeled for black men’s magazine, straight stuntin magazine, and smooth magazine just to name a few. I had my son so my modeling career took a backseat and I decided to become a teacher. I absolutely loved teaching, but I knew it was not my end goal. As a teacher I developed public speaking skills and I was able to break out of my shy shell. I learned so much about people in general. I learned that the sad things people go through was real life and not just television. I wanted to help my kids with real life situations vs just learning. So I decided to get my masters degree in public administration so that I could work for parks and recreation for the city and that way I could help families in different ways. Due to my fear to fail and being comfortable I never pursued the job. Years passed and I was still teaching due to fear. I had my 7th knee surgery in 2020 and I went through a really rough patch in my life. I went through depression and lack of self confidence. I decided to get help and go through therapy and it really helped me along with supportive family and friends. I decided to start posting my recovery and actually talking a little bit about it and realized so many other people was experiencing the same thing and I was helping them by just sharing my experience. I was very happy to be able to help others just by sharing my journey. The more I posted the more my supporters grew. I started getting more comfortable and started doing the viral dance challenges (I can not dance lol) and posting my workouts. I also started talking more and giving my supporters the authentic me. So much positive feedback made me just continue and before you know it 3 years had past and here I am. What separates me from others I keep it 100% real at all times. I am very relatable to my supporters. I don’t sugar coat anything. Life has ups and downs for everyone so don’t be afraid or embarrassed of what you been through. Those things are what make you the person you are today. I don’t regret anything or anyone that came and left my life because that was exactly what I wanted and need at that time. When someone writes me and tell me I helped them through their day that makes me so proud because you never know what a person is going through and if I can make you feel better then I did my deed rather it’s from something I said or me making you laugh. I just want to put positivity into the world.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a content creator is putting smiles on others faces. Making others not feel alone in this big world. Helping others to believe in themselves and know that they can do anything in this world that they want to and it’s never too late.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal is to show my son that the world is his. He can do anything he put his mind to. Just believe in himself and block out the negative noise. And for him to be proud of his Mommie
