We were lucky to catch up with Brendan Heneghan recently and have shared our conversation below.

Brendan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?

I wish I would have opened my shop sooner. Hands down. I waited till the “time was right”, I didn’t think it was right to open a shop as a new artist, which I still stand by. You should work at a few shops and see how they operate. Take the things you like and dislike and let that shape your vision, however 14 years later, I took the leap of faith I probably could have taken 10 years in. I just wasn’t ready and very apprehensive to move forward with my own shop. Once we got everything off the ground, I saw the positive feedback and watched my clientele grow rapidly! I should have done this sooner but I’m glad I didn’t wait any longer!

Brendan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

We are Harvest Moon Tattoo Co. located in Plainfield, IL. Though we are a public shop we are predominantly a by appointment only. Focusing on a very attention to detail type atmosphere with all eyes on the project at hand and the client/artist dialog. I don’t like being distracted by walk-ins or phone calls. I feel we owe it to our clients to be devoted to the tattoo and time spent, which is so valuable! We’re an all inclusive shop and the only shop in town proudly allied with “plainfield pride”, an amazing organization! It is important to us that everyone who walk through our doors know they equals to us, and are welcome with zero judgement.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

Creating clean and solid tattoos no matter how big or small! Our goal is to take whatever idea and make it a long lasting beautiful tattoo.

My wife. I met her actually through tattooing her as a client first and we became friends! Eventually we grew our friendship and grew our family! We have two amazing kids now and one on the way! What a trip!
