We were lucky to catch up with Brenda Trujillo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brenda, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
After an 18 year career at UCLA, my health had begun to suffer. I took time off to prioritize my wellbeing, and with determination, was able to restore my energy, health and fitness. But my transformation was only possible with the help of the community & family, and that became my inspiration for ActivePear. I wanted to help others with my fitness knowledge and also have more fun with athletic wear, providing my customers a product that would compliment all their beautiful curves.
ActivePear is more than just a brand; we’re here to help women recognize and practice better self-care habits. We want to make sure everyone has access to lead happier, healthier lives and we love to make the connections to the right people in the industry, health shops, gyms, fitness instructors and beauty studios to help you achieve that, while also creating a revolution of confidence in fashion.

Brenda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m so proud to be a Latina in business owner. My goal is to establish a brand for all women’s shapes, a brand that makes you feel amazing in your own skin. I also plan to use the success of the ActivePear brand as a way to also branch out and not only dress women in athletic wear, but also help with their fitness journey by providing them with the right resources that are available in our communities.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe that it was consistency staying true to my product, making sure that the fitness clothes I’m putting out there is really something that makes everyone feel amazing and confident.

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
I sell on my website only and believe that the future is online shopping. I don’t use Amazon; I believe that there are so many vendors on amazon that it wouldn’t make much profit there. I do advertise a lot on Instagram and TikTok and I think you get a l0t more for your money as it goes directly to my website.
