We recently connected with BRENDA LEVESQUE and have shared our conversation below.

BRENDA, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

During the pandemic in 2020 I wanted to find a way to connect with people and spent a lot of time on Instagram. I was connecting with a lot of creatives that had very small followings at the time and I thought it would be gray to find out what their stories were. I also noticed there weren’t a lot of people that looked liked me in the space, i.e. Black women, of a certain age, that had unique style. I hoped that by showing up I would encourage others like me to do the same.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My mission is to help others discover their own personal style and encourage them to crate their own art through clothing. We can decide everything day who we want to be and how we want to show up in the world which is a powerful thing. Not only does it build our own confidence it can serve and inspiration to others.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

The fashion industry would have us believe that we need to always have something new, keep up with trends and dress a certain way to be ‘in’ fashion. The industry also focuses on a very small demographic that excludes most people.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

I conaider my audience a community. I have been able to build through my weekly IG live which brings people together and introduces them to others. I also have tried to be consistent and engage with others. I believe consistency is key, but that looks different for everyone.
