Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brenda Kirk. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brenda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Looking back at the decisions you made early in your career, particularly whether to join a firm or start your own, do you feel you made the right choice for that stage of your career?
Having worked in the banking industry, I witnessed firsthand the stark mindset gap in various demographic areas. This disparity deeply resonated with me, especially as I observed the under served communities in my own neighborhood grappling with financial challenges due to a lack of financial literacy. Armed with the knowledge, tools, and resources from my banking experience, I made a personal commitment to give back. I vowed to empower my community by bridging this gap, providing access to essential financial education, and fostering a brighter financial future for all.

Brenda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Brenda, a resilient single mother of four who recently emerged from a challenging divorce, determined to transform adversity into triumph. Amidst the chaos of the pandemic, I seized the opportunity to breathe life into an organization that had been a dream for a decade. My journey began in the banking industry, initially as a means to support my college education. However, I quickly discovered a passion for building relationships as a banker, assisting individuals in achieving their financial aspirations.
Throughout my career, I’ve witnessed disparities in various communities firsthand. This insight fueled my mission to bridge the gap in mindsets between these diverse populations. At Better Stewards, our cornerstone is mindset coaching, empowering individuals to recognize how their thoughts and beliefs shape their financial attitudes. Our goal is to revolutionize people’s relationships with money, offering education and empowerment to pave the way for a brighter future.
We equip our community with the tools and resources needed to take control of their finances, from crafting and adhering to budgets to utilizing credit responsibly and embarking on the journey to home ownership. In addition to founding Better Stewards, I’ve launched a community-centric real estate brokerage, serving as a vehicle to fund our financial literacy initiatives. Together, we’re building a foundation for economic empowerment and sustainable wealth creation within our communities.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
My faith is not just a personal belief system; it’s also my strategy for growing a new clientele. It guides me in how I interact with others, how I approach challenges, and how I conduct my business. With faith as my foundation, I strive to build genuine, meaningful relationships with clients. I believe that by practicing honesty, integrity, and compassion, I can not only attract new clientele but also retain them for the long term. My faith gives me the strength and confidence to navigate the ups and downs of business, knowing that I am supported by something greater than myself. Ultimately, I see my faith as a cornerstone of my business strategy, shaping every decision I make and every interaction I have with clients.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Atomic Habits helped me shift my mindset from focusing on goals to focusing on systems and processes. It encouraged me to take a proactive approach to building the life I want, one small habit at a time.
