We were lucky to catch up with Bren Holmes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bren, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
For most of my life, I’’ve been a musician/creative and only when I was very young, in my late teens, did I have some type of normal steady paycheck…
There is definitely something to be said about getting a steady paycheck every few weeks. It seems very secure and it’s way easier to plan things and knowing what you can afford and can’t afford. Little did I know, going into the music business, that it can be feast or famine on a lot of occasions…. what I found myself doing, was putting away money for a “rainy day” because there are plenty of those in our business. I feel a lot of musicians/artists fall into the trap of not planning ahead for the future and to have some funds saved up. That being said, I know a lot of artists, including myself that could not go back into a 9-to-5 job sitting at a desk… I think we’d all go crazy! Ha

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Bren Holmes and I’m originally from Dublin Ireland. I came to United States in the late 80’s to pursue a music career.. it started off a bit rocky, but eventually we got a band together and called ourselves ‘The Young Dubliners’.
Here we played traditional Irish rock music, I’d never played Irish music in my life, and it was kind of new to me to be honest. Eventually, we got our first record deal and ended putting out nine albums and tour the world..
After being with the band for over 28 years, it was time to spread out and try and do my own music. I released my first solo album back in February 20 22 and I’m currently working on my new album which is set for release next spring 2025..

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to create as much music as I can, record it and release it to the world. Then I’d like to get out on the road and play it to as many people that are willing to listen to me. I feel my music deserves to be heard, it’s upbeat, happy and optimistic!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think one of the most rewarding aspects of being an artist is to be able to perform your music to people, getting their feedback and hopefully moving them emotionally and spiritually.
