Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brei Carter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brei , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Knowing what I know now, I’d say maybe a little more research on the people I chose to work with. Doing my due diligence and not just taking someone’s word for it! In the music business, it’s not for the faint at heart; you have to have tough skin and learn to not be sensitive. There are a lot of people that prey on people and you just have to make sure you’re grounded and you keep the right people around you. The only thing I’d say that could have sped up things possibly is just being consistent. When you work a full time job and are doing music full time and living life with your other responsibilities, something loses out. Just prioritizing a little better. But on the other hand, I have to admit that everything happens for a reason and everyone’s journey looks different. I believe growing up with a single mother and joining the military played a role in my resilience and not being afraid to go for what I wanted helped mold me into someone that doesn’t take a single day for granted and goes for what she wants.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a country soul singer from Louisiana and back in 2014 when my biological father passed away I decided to pursue my childhood dreams of being a singer. His death was just another reminder of the fact that no day is promised to any of us and to go for what you want. I come from a family of veterans and family members where faith keeps you grounded, gives you hope and brings you through everything. How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
There have been so many pivotal moments in my life. For example when my biological father passed away and I decided to pursue my passion of becoming a country singer. I had completed a Bachelor and a Master’s Degree and had a great job in corporate America, but it just really hit home how precious life is and to just go for what I really wanted. Also, making the decision to relocate to Nashville and leave my home in the Midwest behind. Leaving loved ones and animals to commit to my beliefs about music. There have been so many sleepless nights and I’ve shedded many tears questioning my decisions. I’ve also worked with the wrong people and have unfortunately been taken advantage of, but that happens to almost every artist at some point in their career. So I’d say I have a life of lessons and pivotal points in my life. But, honestly, when you believe In something you have to be willing to go all in no matter which way the road of life winds! There will always be speed bumps and potholes along the way.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Society can support independent artists in several ways. Go to our shows. Buy our merchandise. Tell your friends and family about us. Make donations, stream our music, like, love and share the music on socials. It’s all worth it for us as artists, and we not only do it for ourselves, we do it for you. Start here: BreiCarter.com 😆😁
