We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Breezee Morrison. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Breezee below.
Breezee, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I was working a demanding job that made it difficult for me to balance work and family life. While at work I prayed for an opportunity that would allow me to be with my family and still generate income. Entrepreneurship has a place in my heart, so I thought of business’s, fun business’s! While at work an idea…shave ice! I gave my two weeks notice and started my adventure.
Growing up in Hawaii, shave ice was a stapled treat on a hot day at the beach. I wanted to share that experience with people in Arizona. For me, Hawaiian Shave Ice represents culture, community, festivities, and most of all the “Aloha Spirit” – hospitality. An opportunity for me to work with my kids and my mom, to instill the skill sets that come with entrepreneurship. My children call my mom Tutu – grandma. Tutu’s Hawaiian Shave Ice pays homage to my mother, my kid’s grandmother and the memories I envisioned us to make under our little pop up tent.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was taught the importance of hospitality from my parents and grandparents. Hospitality is an imprint of experience that people can carry throughout their lives. When people come to our tent I want them to feel the excitement of getting a treat. Tutu’s Hawaiian Shave Ice has taken my family to so many communities throughout Arizona. When you invite us to be part of your festivities you support unity, family, hard work, and a mama that just wanted my family to make memories. As we make memories, we become part of our customers memories. To see the smiles of our little customers that tell me I’m the best cook is priceless!

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
It was my brother that funded my business. He believed in the vision of a family business. At the time I was my mother’s caregiver and the business was an opportunity to keep family, work balance.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe in building healthy business relationships. I stand on integrity, professionalism, and clear communication. I feel that it is essential to find clients that have the same beliefs. I feel this fosters a strong business relationship.
