We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Breeanya Hinkel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Breeanya below.
Hi Breeanya, thanks for joining us today. Do you manage your own social media?
We manage our own social media for Prescott Woman Magazine because I enjoy interacting with my advertisers and readers personally. We also manage clients’ social media with our sister organization, BJH Designs, utilizing their professional branding, tone, and information supplied. I think social media is an important tool to reach people outside your circle. It allows you to be creative without breaking the bank.
Breeanya, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
With our two organizations we focus on a few different elements:
Prescott Woman Magazine is a community publication that has been publishing for 18 years. I purchased the magazine almost 5 years ago and enjoy continuing its messaging of women empowerment, business, health, and family.
BJH Designs focuses on website and graphic design for our local community. We enjoy working with non-profits and community organizations. We like to see their branding take flight in social media and in print.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
During the summer of 1999, she left her hometown of Prescott, AZ with a graphic design certificate and trailer full of belongs to head across the country – north to North Dakota. Following her heart (a boy) and a dream. She started her career in graphic design at age 19 in Minot, ND at the Minot Daily News while attending Minot State University studying design and marketing.
After two, cold and interesting years in Minot – with a bit of heartbreak and avoiding frostbite. She returned to Prescott, AZ and began working at a local printing company, EMI PrintWorks, heading up their pre-press and graphic design departments. Bree worked at the print shop for 6 years before being approached by a local magazine, Prescott Woman Magazine, to be their layout and ad designer. She quickly jumped on that opportunity and jumped right into it at the start of 2008.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
My team is mostly composed of remote workers who work out of their homes. We enjoy having team dinners or events where we can either give back to a non-profit or catch up. During the shut down we utilized Zoom to reconnect and snail mail gifts.
