We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bree Luhtala. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bree below.
Hi Bree, thanks for joining us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
A growing trend in the beauty industry is shifting the focus from surface-level treatments to something far more powerful: biostimulation. In the realm of aesthetic laser technology, this means using targeted heat energy to create controlled micro-injuries in the deeper layers of the skin. While that may sound intense, it’s actually a highly effective way to trigger the body’s natural healing process—specifically, the production of collagen. Known as collagen induction, this process strengthens the skin from within, improving tone, texture, and overall resilience.
Biostimulatory laser treatments are ideal for those who want visible results without resorting to plastic surgery or more invasive procedures. They also pair beautifully with injectables like Botox or dermal fillers, enhancing their effects. And for patients who prefer to skip the needles altogether, laser-based biostimulation offers a non-invasive path to skin rejuvenation.
This trend recently caught public attention when actress Lindsay Lohan reappeared in the spotlight with a radiant, refreshed look. Online buzz attributed her glow not to fillers or surgery, but to the strategic use of aesthetic laser treatments—proving once again that sometimes the best results come from waking up your own skin’s natural potential.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
It all started with a pair of eyebrows.
My mom was having her brows done and afterward telling me about the appointment at the medical spa. The owner of the medical spa turned out to be a former dental patient of mine—proof that the world really is small. She told me about the laser technician certification course she offered, and I decided to visit the spa to see if it might be a good fit. From the calming scent in the office to the thrill of learning how to use those big ol’ lasers, I was hooked!
At the same time, I was serving on the board of Southern Arizona Against Slavery (SAAS), an organization committed to fighting human trafficking. That same week, during a board meeting, we discussed the heartbreaking story of two women who had survived sex trafficking. They carried not only emotional scars but also physical reminders: branding tattoos from their traffickers. While tattoo cover-up services existed, they were booked out for months. And even then, the past would still be inked into their skin. Laser tattoo removal is often cost-prohibitive—and painful.
In an effort to help, SAAS contacted the very spa where I planned to take my certification. Without hesitation, the owner invited the women in for a free consultation. Coincidentally—or perhaps providentially—the day I came in to pay for my course was the same day those two women walked in for their consultation. We had never met before, but that moment brought us together. As a woman of faith, I truly believe that meeting was arranged by the Lord Himself.
The generosity of that spa owner moved me deeply. It planted a dream in my heart: to one day use my own certification and business to offer free laser tattoo removal for survivors of human trafficking.
Today, my business—BL Aesthetics by Bree Luhtala—specializes in Vivace Microneedling with RF (radiofrequency) treatments, which have been truly transformative for my clients. My mission is to enhance your natural beauty with the best treatments available, helping you shine with radiant confidence in all aspects of your life. One of my proudest moments was helping a client reclaim her confidence by reducing lip lines, crow’s feet, and deep-set “11” wrinkles, while restoring the pigmentation issues left by hormonal melasma.
Becoming a certified laser technician, investing in my own device and starting my own business has been a beautiful evolution. It blends my years of hands-on patient care in dentistry with a new passion: helping people heal through skin. It’s not just about aesthetics—it’s “for a life that radiates beauty”.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara
This book was a great reminder of the enjoyment of providing our clients, patients, guests or customers the best of what we have to offer. So much so, that when they give us that five star review, they really mean it!
As a new business owner, this book introduced me to new terminology, one in particular- PNL, short for Profit and Loss. I just had to go find out what this PNL was about and now, months later, I run my own PNL reports!
Finally, the book got my creative juices flowing as I dreamt about the possibilities of offering extravagant, thoughtful hospitality to the patients I serve. It’s okay to be unreasonable when you’re an entrepeneur!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Putting all my eggs in one basket. There is one aspect of my business that I am trying to grow. Unfortunately, it is a slow-growing aspect. It was actually the part of my business that I had hoped would be most quickly growing. I had put all my eggs in one basket- as in this one area of my business and one person to help me build it. It cost me money, time, stress and some loss of identity as a business owner. People outside the business had told me to fail quickly and this was one of those times. Now, I have focused on many other areas of the business that need tending. It feels more balanced and quite frankly, more successful as I move forward. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to implement this part of the business that felt like a failure in the moment.
