We caught up with the brilliant and insightful BreaRose Smith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
BreaRose, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
My business has developed as a byproduct of the wisdom and skills I have cultivated from my own healing journey. Throughout my life I have been guided to pave an untraditional path, one that is defined by my own inner callings and truths as opposed to what I perceive as “normal” in society. My personal desire for spiritual meaning and inner connection led me to seek out multiple therapeutic healing modalities and their various training programs. The resulting knowledge and certifications from these programs became the backbone of my business.
I have learned many things through building a business, and I am still learning every day. One main takeaway has been that there is no endpoint, it is all one continuous process. I am where I am today because of many small steps and experiences. I began my business journey by training to become a yoga instructor in 2014. I paired my love of yoga with my desire to help those in need and created my first business Service & Savasana in 2018. Through this business I plan and execute yoga class events to raise money for non-profit organizations that are selected because of their commitment to protecting and empowering the most vulnerable among us. In 2020 I dove deeper into my inner exploration and trained to become certified In Reiki Energy healing and Akashic Records healing. This led me to create “BreaRose Healing,” where I offer these energy healing methods to individual clients.
I’ve learned that the physical space of my business matters. I first began seeing energy healing clients in my home office to gain experience and knowledge. I then moved into my first private office in the beginning of 2022. I am currently moving into my second office, sharing with a colleague which will provide yet another experience.
Presently I work with individual clients to assist them in their own healing, facilitate yoga events and full moon ceremonies, teach yoga, and am in the process of writing my first book (another inevitable continuation of the process). I have been successful at paving a way for myself to be of service to others, make a living, enjoy my life, and love myself through the process. Here are a few takeaways that I hope provides some support!
**To fully understand how I am where I am today, I would offer my entire life story, but we obviously don’t have time for that, so feel free to check out my blog for more information.
– If you are looking for a starting point, look within. Explore and discover what you love and use that as guidance for a next step. This could look like pursuing a degree in what you want to learn about, training in a certification program, travelling, volunteering etc.
– Trust your energy level. The truth is there is no rush, and it is vital to learn to listen to your body when it needs rest and rejuvenation.
– Your heart/gut/what makes you happy is your most trustworthy source. Fear and doubt are normal and in most cases are not based on truth. A good acronym for fear is “false evidence appearing real.” Trusting what your quiet inner voice is telling you can be very helpful.
– I still experience doubt and self-criticism which allows me to grow and expand daily. Practice being aware of what you tell yourself and what you say aloud. It all has an impact on how you feel and how your business runs. You are just as worthy as anyone else doing what you want to do. Train your mind to believe this.
– Be sure to reflect on your life and progress from a bird’s eye view- notice how much you are accomplishing! Exerting both effort and ease in a mindful way are accomplishments.
– Things take time to grow – just like the plants and the trees! Accept and acknowledge this and trust the process. Putting in daily effort will produce results… it may not be when you want it to be, but it will happen…. I promise!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello! My name is BreaRose and my business BreaRose Healing encompasses the various things I do to be of service to others. These include energy healer, yoga instructor, group facilitator, spiritual counselor, and event planner.
My personal journey of self-discovery led me to understand and pursue what I wanted to create and do professionally. To provide a little background, I came out of the womb and into the world as a very sensitive soul. As a small child I felt immense inner joy, while simultaneously experiencing intense fear and confusion about the world in which I lived. When I was young, I did not understand my sensitivities, and for a long time my deep-feeling nature felt like a torturous thing to deal with. However, I have learned through time and experience how my deep feeling nature is one of the biggest blessings in my life. It has become my guiding force and greatest superpower. It is important to note that that has taken a lot of time and introspection. I have had to express rage for who I am not, and find a way to honor the truth of and make space for who I am. I continue to practice this every day of my life. Each one of us is unique and we each need to see our own value. That opens a path to also experiencing the love and joy that makes life worth living. I help people learn how to do that.
There are many aspects of my life that contribute to the work I do today. Part of the journey includes my personal struggles with anxiety, depression, addiction, autoimmune disorders, and food sensitivities. Another part was exploring other more traditional professions before I could realize my place was in wellness and the healing arts.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
“You must push, strive, and grind to succeed. Success only looks one way.”
I have gone through periods of putting an inordinate amount of pressure on myself to “do more.” One of the main stories I used to tell myself that I have healed and continue to heal is “you’re not doing enough.” I have learned time and time again that this mindset is purely fear and is simply not true. A mentor of mine once shared that as human beings, we will do anything to not feel shame. I think societal pressure to “do more” is all about proving to ourselves that we are not “bad.” The truth is that at our core, we are all pure goodness and love. Interestingly enough, I think that is what can scare us the most. There is no limit to our potential, but we must take time and space to see it, which can feel terrifying to the fearful mind. It can feel terrifying because it requires us feeling the lies that stand in the way of our divine worthiness. I have learned that the more I believe and act on my goodness and innate worthiness, the more my business thrives, and I enjoy my life. This can mean that if I feel stressed or tired, I honor that and instead do something that will enliven me and make me happy. For me, this has been my recipe to success.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Connection, being present, taking care of myself so when I go out into the world people are attracted to my energy and want something that I have. In addition to this, before working with a client or group I always set the intention to be of service for the highest good of the people I am serving. This allows it to go from being about me to being about who I am serving. Most businesses have an energy which people can feel. Aligning my business with the intention and energy of love helps me to feel good about it which in turn attracts clientele.
