Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bre’Anna Lander. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Bre’Anna , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I want to build a legacy reflecting the fruits of the spirit. Love. Joy. Peace. Patience. Kindness. Goodness. Faithfulness. Gentleness. Self-Control. I want my legacy to bring inspiration. After I am gone, I want people to remember me for always pushing the fundamentals of reading. I want them to remember me for my reserved yet get it done spirit.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Bre’ Anna Lander and I own a new and used book closet located on the Eastside of Indianapolis.
I got into the book selling industry during quarantine, my mom and I wrote a children’s book called Girl Time, and after doing a few vendor events, a few great ideas sparked. I have always had a strong passion for reading, and to one day own and or manage a bookstore. I wanted to put my own spin on Half Price Books, so I talked to my parents and came up with the idea of the Garden of Readin’ Book Closet. At our store, we spotlight local authors, as well as house new and used reads for all ages and walks of life. I am good with solving the common reader problem ” What should I read next? ” I like to put people on to different reads I have come across, along with giving honest reviews. I think what sets us apart is our dedication to working with our locals and simply making reading fun again. I am most proud of this business overall; I can actually say with pride that I have accomplished something I have always wanted to do. I am proud of the fact that people are picking up books again, people are realizing how important literacy truly is. I want people to know that reading is not boring, reading can be fun, knowledge is power!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for my business has been vendor events. We have connected with so many amazing people in and around Indianapolis by vending and hosting small business vendor events and seminars.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
After our first year of being open, The Garden of Readin’ left the space we were in and transitioned to an online bookstore.
This was a major adjustment for us, inventory had to be uploaded, things moved, adjustments to how we made sales. The pivot from instore to online came with its challenges but we overcame.
