We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Breanna Botten a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Breanna, thanks for joining us today. Alright, let’s take a stroll on memory lane, back to when you were an apprentice or intern. What’s a memorable story from that time that you can share with us?
A memorable moment for me happened in July 2021. I decided to pursue becoming a Makeup artist. I attended my first makeup bootcamp class with Shay Baby. I was surprised at how I fast I caught on and how my interest within the artistry peaked. I also took a “One on One” makeup class with Tiara Darling. I learned so much from her class from color matching to placement and Skin tones.
Doing makeup no longer was just about making revenue, it was about being intentional of finding my niche and style of mastering the skillset and artistry.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who aren’t familiar with who I am, my name is Breanna. I’m 27 years old and I’m a mom of two under two. I got into the business of beauty and makeup during the pandemic. My boyfriend encouraged me to take a makeup class and the rest was history.
I specialize in soft glam and natural makeup. Accentuating & bringing out the natural beauty & features of my clients is top tier for me. Outside of taking two makeup classes and having a mentor , I did a lot of research, experienced a lot of trial and error, and learned a lot. The learning process is ongoing and there’s always room for growth.
Within my journey, I’ve became very intentional of my work and the clients I want to attract. Im very proud of how far I’ve come and that I know my target audience.
Moving forward as my skill and content develops, I would love to work with different brands and companies within the beauty industry.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The best way to create a social media presence is by consistency and creating quality content. Nothing happens overnight. Being intentional and staying consistent is very helpful when trying to put your work and brand out for the world to experience.
What you post is your pro folio that will attract the clientele you want. It’s a great way your followers can get familiar with you as well.
Lastly, investing in quality equipment and lighting is crucial, it gives a better visual in how your work looks and what the viewer sees.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
A story from my journey that illustrates my resilience would be when I did my first wedding. I was in charge of doing the bridesmaids makeup. I worked alongside another makeup artist who was there as well , that alone pushed me to do my very best. I didn’t allow myself to over think or compare our journeys. I simply believed in my abilities and had confidence in my work.
