We were lucky to catch up with Breanna Berry recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Breanna, thanks for joining us today. What’s something crazy on unexpected that’s happened to you or your business
Honestly my whole sneaker art career has been an amazing, unreal story! Everything took off and happened so fast!! I’ve been doing art my whole entire life but struggled to find a place as an artist or what I really wanted to do with it. One day in June 2017 I decided to get up and paint an extra pair of Timberland boots I had. I painted Mickey Mouse on them because I love Mickey Mouse. I posted them on Instagram and life literally took off from that day forward! I honestly didn’t even know there was a whole industry for shoe art until I started posting on Instagram! When something is meant for you, the universe will show you that, and boy did it! I’ve been putting my art on sneakers for 7 years now. Within the first 5 years I had customized shoes for NBA players, NFL players, MLB, big organizations celebrities and huge names! My art and name had become known worldwide. I became sponsored by an art company, I won a show called paint wars TWICE! I had become the official team customizer for the Denver Broncos and I had fulfilled my dream of building a brand new home for me & my family. All of this within the first 5 years of customizing shoes!! My life has taken off like no other. I really put Colorado on the map for sneaker customization. I often still sit back and think about how amazing & blessed I am to have found what I was meant to do in life!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Breanna Berry, I am from Denver Colorado and I am a sneaker artist for the stars! I create one of a kind, unique, one of one art on shoes! Art has always been my passion! When it comes to painting shoes I like to have a lot of artistic freedom, you have to just trust the process. Clients can provide any specific wording, images or colors they may want but the rest is left up to me! My clients love seeing what I come up with and are never disappointed. People come to me because I have a vision for these things, as all artists should! I’m very inspired by street art. I love boldness, graffiti, paint splatters and drips. My style of art stands out from others for sure. We all have our own styles as artists so you can kinda tell who did what. I make everything drip and just have a look of my own. Several people have complimented me in seeing my heart and passion within my art. I truly put my all into what I do and love that people can see that! My art is certainly one of a kind!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by being authentic within myself and my art. Your craft speaks for itself, people can see the love and passion i have in my art and are attracted to that. I just simply would post shoes that I painted and people organically gravitated to my art. I’ve also worked with major athletes and corporations that would also share my art so that has had some impact on building my audience as well but overall it’s my love for art. My advice to anyone trying to build their audience is focus solely on the craft over anything else. Believe in yourself, have confidence and stay consistent.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Coming into the custom shoe industry there were several big artists, artists that had been doing this for years and artists that were getting the opportunities I dreamed about…. I wasn’t new to art but I was new to doing custom shoes at the time. I didn’t let any of that stop or intimidate me. I just did my own thing, believed in myself, continued to put out my art, and I reached so many of my goals, other artists levels and made so many of my dreams come true in half the time! The same opportunities that other artists had and I once dreamed of, I had already gotten! I knew I was meant for this!
