Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Breana Pulizzi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Breana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
I have always been drawn into the creative industry. Any art form holds a special place for me. The photography industry will tell you that picking a niche will make a break your success. I chose to pick a brand instead of a niche. I specialize in lifetime Photography. I tell people’s stories as they unfold following them through their lifetime of big moments. This was a very hard decision as I was told that it would hinder mean the long run. But I have found that when people trust you and understand your vision, you can really create some beautiful imagery. Most of my clients have been with me from the beginning.

Breana , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have had a camera in my hand since I can remember. My dad actually graduated from film school and so you can say that I picked it up pretty easily. I always found him to be inspiring and creative himself, and I wanted to take those attributes and find what inspired me.
I joined the industry a little under 10 years ago. Creating a new industry standard for community. I recently took over a local group to inspire other photographers to grow and share talent. Often the Photography industry really pushes for competitive nature and that’s not some thing I am interested in participating with. Over the years, I found it really hard to find photographers that I could trust to ask questions without judgment. So I decided to take a group with other like minded people and molded into an awesome community.
When deciding what direction I wanted my brand to go I saw the lack of long-term connection. Most wedding photographers are strictly Wedding Photographers not interested in continuing on peoples journey. I find that my bond with clients is not something that I want to just give up because their wedding day is over. So I make it very clear with them that I am open to all types of photography not just Weddings, and would love to be a part of their journey and their story.
Cultivating a community, focusing on peoples stories, rather than the bottom line and creating a brand that invests in their clients as much as clients invest in them has always been my goal and over the last five years or so I would say that that vision has completely come to life.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Yes, I wish that I had found a community sooner or started a community sooner. I was lucky enough to find a group of friends in the industry that I could ask questions too but when I first started, I had no one to go to. It was really hard to get started.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Word of mouth is so valuable in this industry. And it doesn’t just come from clients, but also people that you work along the side of. Wedding Vendors in particular will be your best advocate, so treat them kindly. I am so lucky to have met wonderful people in this industry that are also now friends. Be kind, show gratitude and when things become challenging make sure you are working together as a team.
