We recently connected with Breana Blake and have shared our conversation below.
Breana, appreciate you joining us today. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today
If i were starting over in business I’d focus more on community and how to create templates of my knowledge. Everything we do in business is a system, when you learn how to set that system up and show other people you’re able to help more people and scale faster. Instead of starting with 1-1 coaching sessions i would see if my methods could help 5-10 people at once. This would help validate your idea, validate your system and also help to streamline your process in helping others without exchanging time for money. I would have implemented a low ticket membership to start as an on going coaching basis to have retainer clients that need me in their pockets vs only serving a small hand full of clients and looking for new ones every month. The biggest thing i see new entrepreneurs not doing is creating an email list and nurturing that list. Everyone already knows that they get sold to via email so why not actually speak to them and share things you don’t typically share via social media.
Breana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi my name is Breana Rose Blake, I’ve been in the coaching industry since 2011 as a life coach and transitioned into business coaching shortly after seeing how successful my clients were becoming when we worked on their mental health and aligned it with actually showing up in their business by creating better systems and focusing on digital products. I am now a Business Mentor with an Agency called Once Upon A Lovely Business, which is my DBA of It’s Lovely B INC. I’m a huge Disney adult hence the name. My agency helps new and established entrepreneurs start and scale their business by simplifying their business systems and creating additional revenue with digital products such as memberships, ebooks, courses and templates. They call me a System Siren not only for my love of mermaids but because i love systems and have a system for everything. I will organize your life and business from your to do list to having a weekly cleaning schedule to not be overwhelmed with everyday life. The types of Products and services i provide is 1-1 coaching and group coaching inside of my memberships. The digital products i have coming are all based around learning how to create a better business which can look like effectively using automations, how to create systems, how to leverage email marketing, how to craft a freebie, how to create funnels…etc. The problem i solve for my clients is the overwhelm and lack of business knowledge. My clients are looking to enjoy their business but also feel that the work they are doing is impactful. I create simple ways to see and understand what is and isn’t working in their business. I am a huge fan of metrics, i teach my clients how to understand metrics so they can become independent and learn when to test and try new things in business. The thing that sets me a part from others is my transparency and my love for anyone that comes into my community. I am someone who values transparency and sharing the truth behind why something works and why something doesn’t work. In todays coaching industry their are a lot of broken promises of high income months and a lot of people fall for it because they don’t understand that before you hit 10K months you must first be consistency making $500, then you grow to $1,000 months, $1,500 months and so on and so forth. Sure you can go from $2,000 to $10,000 but if you aren’t sure what you did and how you did it you can’t repeat it. Having a repeatable business is the thing that i help my clients achieve. I’m most proud of the community i’ve built. I like to call them my Rose Tribe, My Corazones… which is translated to my hearts in Spanish as i’m Latina. I believe i’ve shown how you can get ready, show up for yourself while showing up for your business. Right now i’m currently working on helping 100 entrepreneurs to get organized for free in my community. Overall i’d love for people to know that i’m like a ball of glitter, at first when you meet me and see all the glitter on you, you might be intimidated with how much i’d be able to help you with and then you realize you absolutely love the glitter and you want more of it so i then turn you into a beautiful ball of glitter that sprinkles it on everyone else.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn procrastination. I had a mental health membership and I had a whole section on Unlearning. Unlearning to me was working through everything that shaped who you are but unlearning the traits that stopped you from becoming who you’re suppose to be. Everyone procrastinates but no one is honest as to why they do it. For myself, i needed to unlearn what my timeline looked like. I need to unlearn doing things just because everyone was doing it, i needed to unlearn work boundaries. For example, i’ve always wanted certain things in business, but when it would come down to doing the task i never did it, i’d always do other things or say i’d do it tomorrow and as you can imagine tomorrow came and it never got done. We are so use to not doing the thing and comparing our step 3 to someone else’s step 15. I was in the constant cycle of being burnt out because everything i did was based on “catching up” and working on what i procrastinated on but it was never the thing i really wanted to do. To effectively unlearn i needed to have a conversation with myself over what exactly did i want. after i answered that i audited everything i did and asked myself is this in alignment with the goal that i seek. This became such a transformational moment that I started coaching clients on this, i had several clients who wanted to become more fit and workout yet they never went to the gym, they didn’t create a movement plan, they procrastinated on eating better so i had to ask them are you sure you really want this because there is so much resistance here, you can’t want to be healthy solely because others say its the right thing to do. So what that taught me was what little things can do you instead, they worked on drinking more water everyday. Putting on workout clothes to clean their home to get them mentally ready etc. That lesson will always show up for me whenever i’m in a new level in my business or in life.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being authentic to myself, I’m a huge Disney lover. For context The Little Mermaid & Beauty and the beast are my favorite. In all of my branding and marketing you’ll either see Disney, mermaids or roses. So many people are afraid to be them, it doesn’t matter if you like star wars, lord of the rings, Super Mario etc, being authentic allows more people to relate to you. Now, there are a lot of things that make me un relatable such as I don’t believe in wearing sweatpants outside and If i’m going outside 8/10 times i’m dressed as though i’m meeting a celebrity because i feel that when you look good, you feel good. All of that has allowed others to meet with me showing up as their best selves. My goal has never been to make someone else for not wearing makeup or getting ready however i’ve always wanted for anyone who entered my world to feel empowered and allowed themselves to show up authentically.
