We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brea Sharron Estep a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brea Sharron, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
In my early twenties, I began personal training and competing in fitness shows and realized it probably wasn’t a good thing to “need” medicine to pay attention and/or prescription narcotics daily to get going, and birth control never made my periods more manageable anyways, so I managed to use prescriptions only as needed. Looking back, although fitness shows are no where near healthy, especially staying that lean by being low fat, low carb and high protein and loaded with artificial sweeteners for over five years, I did I realized how much better I felt cutting out refined sugars and preservatives. Over the years I was challenged to take out artificial sweeteners and noticed a tremendous difference in my body aches, energy and digestive issues, which lead me to researching true all natural health even deeper and creating a passion after my “healthy” father passed away from cancer in his early 50s.
Fast forward a few years to helping take care of my dad and watching him suffer through is battle with cancer, 20 some fitness shows running a personal training studio full time, school full time, years of low carb diets and multiple workouts per day, and ending up gaining 30 pounds in three months while still working out and eating “healthy.’ I hurt; physically, mentally and emotionally. I was miserable, I was embarrassed, I hated what I saw in the mirror, I was the health guru that couldn’t lose the weight.
Fast forward again to now and through becoming an Integrative Health Practitioner I’ve learned to manage the internal and external stress on my body in order rebalance it “whole-istically,” and no longer take any medicine, maintain my ideal weight with ease, have drastically improved my digestion and mood as well am mostly pain free (despite some self inflicted pain from pretty tough workouts)!”
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I think pretty much everyone in business can pinpoint March 2020 as the start of a pivot in their business. Before Covid I owned a brick and mortar fitness studio for 8 1/2 years and unfortunately here in North Carolina gyms were shut down for six months. Which doesn’t work so well when you own one and rent is still do but people can’t come in. After six months of trying to stay afloat, I finally threw in the towel and shut my doors for good knowing I couldn’t bounce back. And it hurt…, A lot… However, now looking back, I am beyond grateful. I started doing online Facebook live workouts every single day to keep clients, friends and family, still engaged, and doing some thing for themselves, mentally physically and emotionally. From all of the messages I got I knew I had to keep going, but I knew I had to restructure my business model, so I amped up the integrative health side of my practice, and moved to a truly online model where I could increase my influence, impact and income!
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Mindset. You have to believe it to achieve it. Fun fact, I’m also a part-time private business coach, putting my business degree to work to help business owners strategize on how to build, and or restructure their businesses online! But what I’ve learned from my own personal experience as well as 100s of entrepreneurs that I’ve been able to work with is you truly won’t go anywhere if you don’t think you can and so many times we have to get out of our own head of self-doubt and self sabotage to truly make things happen, anywhere in life, including business! I can’t recommend self-help, motivational books enough!! Any of them! Just start somewhere!!
