Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Braxton Turner. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Braxton, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I taught myself to DJ in my bedroom at home. After Graduating High School, I saved up from my first job to buy my own pair of CDJs and a Mixer. I dove into learning through Youtube tutorials and lots of hands-on practice. I spent hours in my room learning the fundamentals of beatmatching and basic mixing before I actually got out and played for anyone.
Looking back, I would have tried to connect with other DJs sooner to gain mentorship and learn what they were doing to be successful. Collaborating and getting feedback would have helped me refine my technique and confidence faster than doing it alone.
Learning the basics of beatmatching by ear and understanding the structure of the music I was playing were essential skills that still serve me today.
I first started learning to DJ while living in a small town where there wasn’t much interest in EDM. One of the biggest challenges I faced was the lack of local venues to play at. Performing in front of a live audience is crucial for building both confidence and skill as a DJ, so not having that opportunity made it harder to grow and gain experience.

Braxton, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My journey into DJing began long before I ever got my first set of decks. As a kid, I was heavily influenced by the electronic dance music culture of the late 90’s and early 2000’s. I remember seeing DJs in movies and on TV and thinking, “That’s what i want to do one day”. When my parents finally got a computer with a decent internet connection, it opened up a whole new world for me. I started exploring all different kinds of genres that I really didn’t have access to before. Everything from Trance and House to Breaks and Drum and Bass. Being curious was definitely what shaped my foundation today.
I first started out going to Raves and Dance parties in Atlanta in college to watch local DJs spin. Those experiences gave me a first hand look at the energy and community behind the music scene, and it made me even more determined to become a part of it. Life threw me a curve ball and I ended up having to sell my first set of equipment to pay bills. Ironically, I sold it to one of the cities prominent party promoters, though I didn’t know who he was at the time. He handed me a flyer to his next event, and when I showed up, I ended up making some friends who would be key to the start of my DJ career in the city. That moment really set things in motion.
Today, I perform at a variety of events and venues creating high energy sets that blend multiple genres and keep the crowd hyped. My approach is about building a full bodied set that takes people on a journey and keeps them dancing all night. I love mixing styles and eras in a way that feels seamless and unexpected.
What sets me apart is the time I take in researching before an event. I like to know the layout and vibe of the venue as well as the styles of the other DJs so I can craft my set to stand out but also meld to the night.
I am most proud about being self taught and sticking with DJing even when it wasn’t something I could always prioritize. There were times when life made it hard to stay focused on music, but I always found my way back to it. That persistence has shaped who I am as an Artist and as a person. When people connect with me or my brand, I want them to know one thing: my mission is to deliver an electrifying, unforgettable experience on the dance floor.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being a DJ is the unspoken connection that happens through music. There’s nothing quite like watching a crowd come alive in response to a great mix. It’s an incredible feeling to build that kind of energy and see everyone moving together to the vibe you’ve created.
I also find it rewarding to look back and see how far I have come from when I started. There were definitely challenges along the way and I know there will be more challenges in the future but overcoming past challenges sets the tone for conquering the future ones.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Yes – I wish I had known about local mentorship opportunities, DJ workshops and online communities earlier in my journey. When I first started, I learned everything on my own through tutorials and lots of trial and error. While that taught me persistence and creativity, having access to more experienced DJs could have sped up my learning and helped me avoid some early mistakes.
I also believe that having guidance on the business side of DJing early on would have been incredibly valuable. There’s so much more that goes into building a successful DJ career than most people realize when starting out, and understanding those aspects from the beginning would have made a big difference
