We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brashell Santos a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brashell, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
The first dollar it was actually a Dominican Peso. My first earning came as an actor on a commercial for a drink. It was super exciting because I previously had multiple experiences as an unpaid extra in commercials and films.
After my first paid role, things started to pick up and I was able to land more paying roles in movies.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a Dominican actress and content creator living in Miami.
I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic, I have been involved in the the artistic world from an early age. My mother is a Merengue singer and my father is an entertainment businessman. Since I can remember, I have always had a passion for acting, singing and dancing. I took classes for the aforementioned areas but focused more on acting.
I was a working artist in The Dominican Republic but decided to take challenge to move to new country after getting married. I moved to Miami 3 years ago and I have gone through the ups and downs of starting over in a new country. Notwithstanding, I am grateful for my steady growth and involvement in the local theater scene.
