Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Branislava Ranitovic. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Branislava, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is the founding of ULJUS (Arts Appreciation Society) and the International Piano Competition Smederevo. Both initiatives began in 2014, and this year we are celebrating their 12th edition. What makes this project so meaningful to me is the opportunity to contribute to the global cultural landscape. Through these projects, we’ve created a platform that connects talented musicians from all over the world and promotes the arts on a much wider scale. Over 3,500 young artists from around 60 countries have participated so far, and by sharing performances online, we enable visitors from around the world to experience and appreciate their talent. Over the years, I’ve seen how these initiatives have not only nurtured talent but also fostered greater global understanding and appreciation for the arts.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My journey into music began without a clear plan of where it would lead. Everything unfolded gradually, as I followed the creative ideas that inspired me. At the core of my work lies a deep passion for music—an enduring love that has driven me to dedicate my life to it. After earning my highest level of education in performing arts, I continued my musical path through teaching and concert performances.
In 2014, I founded the ULJUS (Arts Appreciation Association) and launched the International Piano Competition Smederevo. My goal was to create a platform that would inspire and encourage musicians of all ages to pursue their artistic passion. Over the years, my mission has expanded to not only promote young talent but also make their music visible to global audiences. I wanted to create an event that would stimulate artistic growth and connect musicians from around the world.
What sets me apart is my commitment to inclusivity. In addition to professional categories, we provide opportunities for amateur musicians and students who may not specialize in piano but play it as part of their broader studies. This unique approach is one of the things that makes our competition stand out, and we have seen growing participation from diverse backgrounds. The competition has grown significantly, attracting over 3,500 participants from approximately 60 countries.
In 2020, we adapted to a changing global landscape by transitioning the competition to a digital platform. This allowed us to continue showcasing talented musicians from around the world through recorded performances. Our competition includes a variety of categories such as Piano, Chamber Music, Popular Music, Composition, and more. We also offer special awards, including recording contracts for the most successful participants, providing them with a platform to further their careers.
Beyond the competition, ULJUS plays an active role in the musical life of the community by organizing concerts and musical events. Our association collaborates with other organizations and artists from around the world, further promoting cultural exchange and fostering global connections in the arts.
I am proud of the impact we’ve made in the music community, especially in providing young artists with opportunities to shine on an international stage. My mission is to continue inspiring the next generation of musicians and help them achieve the recognition they deserve. Through my work, I hope to foster a deeper connection between artists and audiences across the globe.
As a mother of two daughters, Marina and Sara Bogdanović, both of whom have completed music education and are accomplished pianists themselves, music has always been at the heart of our family. I take great pride in their achievements and feel grateful to share this beautiful art with my children. Together, we are able to continue nurturing the love for music that has been a cornerstone of our lives.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is to inspire young musicians, especially pianists, to continue pursuing their work and passion. Through promoting their performances, I strive to make their music visible to a global audience, giving music lovers from around the world the chance to experience their talent. By offering a platform for these young artists, I hope to help them gain recognition and encourage others to follow their own musical journeys.
Additionally, my goal is to teach students how to enrich their lives through music. By performing, I aim to convey my emotions to the audience, creating a unique connection with them. In this process, I use my talents to craft a musical magic that not only fulfills my mission but also touches the hearts of those who listen.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I want to encourage all people, especially young people, to continue pursuing their visions, no matter what challenges arise along the way. There are many difficulties on this journey, but what truly matters is to keep trying, staying true to your own path and vision. Everything is possible, but when you face obstacles, you just need to persist and follow your vision. That is the true meaning of life and our journey. It is very rare that there are no difficulties on the way, but the difference between non-creatives and creatives is simply that the latter keep trying repeatedly and never give up when challenges arise on the road to realizing their ideas. The results will always appear at the end of the journey, and you will feel fulfilled and happy when your vision comes to life. Only in this way can we feel truly fulfilled, satisfied with our lives, and find the purpose of our existence.
