Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandyn Ross. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Brandyn , thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
So I started my first business when I was nine years old while at church my bishop said, find something that you love and turned it into a business. At the time I was playing basketball and I wore wristbands, so I came up with the idea of making basketball bracelets to sell as my business My mom said that if I was going to make the bracelets and sell them that I will need a purpose for the money received from the bracelets. That is when I came up with the idea to buy books to place in barbershops and beauty salons throughout the city of Philadelphia. Every week when I would go to the barbershop to get my haircut, there was no books for children to read while they waited. My mom would always tell me to read my school books while I was under the dryer waiting for my hair to dry. One day, while reading a book I said to my mom “Studying Never Stops” and at the time she was making T-shirts so I asked her could she make me a shirt with that saying on it. Once I begin to wear the shirt people begin to say that they like the shirt, and that the saying was true that Studying Never Stops so that’s when we decided to pursue it as an apparel company.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Brandyn Ross I am a 15 year old entrepreneur. I started my first business at the age of nine. The current business that i have is called studying, never stops. We sell hoodies, hats, T-shirts, tote bags, sweat suits, and more with the logo Studying Never Stops. Studying Never Stops is more than a brand. It’s a lifestyle. The message that is conveyed through wearing my clothing brand is that studying is not just about academics/school. It’s required in all areas of your life because we learn something new every day. In order to be successful in your craft, you must study it. To be a young entrepreneur requires a lot of hard, work dedication and discipline. Not only am I doing what’s required for school I am also learning what it takes to run a business.. Throughout my journey as a young entrepreneur I have gained so much knowledge about business and myself. One of my. major accomplishments has been going to various schools and speaking about my entrepreneurial journey with the students. A lot of the students when they hear my story, it makes them feel that they can also pursue their dreams as an entrepreneur at such a young age just like I did.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
One thing I would say would be consistency. We were stationed at Cherry Hill Mall for over a year in the same location 2 to 3 weekends out of every month for over a year. We would see some of the same people who would come to the mall on a weekly basis. Some were mall walkers, employees of the mall and just people who would come to the mall to hang out. Some , after seeing us consistently week after week in the same location finally became intrigued enough to stop and find out about the brand. Many of those very people became consistent supporters and valued customers to this day. Within that time frame we have built a great community of people who has seen me when I started out vending with just 1 table and a few products to having 6-8 tables and multiple products to offer.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Providing a quality product with good customer service. Word of mouth and customers has been one of our greatest marketing strategies. Our customers will get stopped wearing my brand and begin to tell my story on how I started and developed my brand and that is how my business began to grow.
