We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brandy Watkins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Brandy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?

A defining moment in my professional career came when I realized how deeply skin concerns impacted my makeup clients’ confidence and self-esteem. Over the years, I’ve loved enhancing my clients’ natural beauty through makeup, but I started noticing a recurring theme—many of them were struggling with underlying skin issues that couldn’t be masked with makeup alone.

This realization sparked something within me. I wanted to do more than just help my clients look beautiful for the day; I wanted to give them lasting solutions that could transform how they felt about themselves. That desire led me back to school to study esthetics, which was a big decision after spending years as a stay-at-home mom. It was important for me to show my children—and myself—that it’s never too late to follow your dreams or make a change when your passion calls you.

This shift not only changed the trajectory of my career but also reaffirmed my purpose: to help people feel confident and empowered in their own skin. It’s been an incredibly rewarding journey and a constant reminder of the power of listening to your heart and taking the leap to pursue what you truly love.

My name is Brandy Watkins, and I am a Licensed Aesthetician, Professional Makeup Artist, Product Developer, as well as the owner of Brandy Watkins Beauty, LLC. My journey in the beauty industry began back in 1996, when I started cosmetology classes in high school. From the very beginning, I felt a calling to help people feel confident and beautiful in their own skin. Over the years, I’ve grown my passion for enhancing natural beauty into a full-fledged career, providing makeup and skincare services that empower my clients to look and feel their best.

What sets my business apart is my personalized approach to skincare and beauty. I take the time to understand my clients’ unique needs and goals through in-depth consultations, offering customized treatments and solutions. My services span from professional makeup artistry to advanced skincare treatments, utilizing medical-grade products and cutting-edge techniques. These include microchanneling, dermaplaning, chemical peels, and laser treatments, made possible by my transition into the med spa space. I also offer my own line of products, including the Essential Body Butter, which I originally created to address my son Brayden’s eczema with natural, safe ingredients. I also offer a curated selection of branded apparel, beard oil, hair oil, luxury mink and faux mink lashes, as well as lash accessories,

At Brandy Watkins Beauty, my focus is on solving skin concerns that go beyond the surface. I’m here to help clients struggling with issues like acne, hyperpigmentation, aging skin, and more. I believe in treating the whole person, which means considering factors like lifestyle, diet, and stress levels to create a comprehensive plan that delivers real, lasting results.

What I’m most proud of is the trust and connections I’ve built with my clients over the years. It’s a privilege to be a part of their self-care journey and to see the confidence that comes from feeling good in their own skin. I also take great pride in being an example to my children that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams and follow your passion.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?

The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been providing exceptional service to every single client and letting my work speak for itself. I truly believe in creating a personalized and memorable experience, focusing on each person’s unique needs and goals. When my clients see real results and feel genuinely cared for, it naturally leads to trust and loyalty.

That trust has been the foundation for word-of-mouth referrals, which have been invaluable to my growth. Many of my clients come to me because someone they know had an amazing experience and couldn’t stop sharing it. There’s no greater compliment than having someone recommend me to their friends, family, or colleagues. It’s a reflection of the quality and care I pour into my work, and I’m so thankful for the incredible support and loyalty my clients continue to show.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?

Absolutely, I would choose the same profession without hesitation. Being an aesthetician and makeup artist has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my life. I love helping people feel confident and beautiful in their own skin—it’s truly my calling.

The only thing I would have done differently is start sooner. I’ve always been passionate about beauty and skincare, and looking back, I wish I had pursued this path earlier. But I also believe that everything happens for a reason, and my journey—taking the time to raise my children and then rediscovering my passion—has shaped me into the professional I am today. It’s never too late to follow your dreams, and I’m so grateful I took the leap when I did.
