We were lucky to catch up with Brandy Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
After 10 years in a career that no longer fulfilled me I decided to take my BIG JUMP in 2017. This was a decision I went back and forth in my head about for the last 5 years. Was I truly ready? Was I willing to leave “job security”, guaranteed salary, summers and holidays off? What I knew and what I had become so accustomed to. Would I fail? Did I have IT? Literally a million doubts lived rent free in my mind, but as long as I stayed still, they would continue to keep me just were I was … a place of complacency and barely content. Both states of being weren’t ones I saw for myself so I had to move! I had jump, scared, doubtful, terrified, with tears in my eyes, I had to and so I did. You see, although terrifying, allowing fear to keep me from my new calling and passion was even more frightening! I had to move!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
From my BIG JUMP forward, life got real interesting! Uncovering new talents, building some pretty amazing relationships, to falling flat on my face a few dozen times, survival at its finest! As a wife and mother two, I had to get real comfortable with failing and real creative with figuring out how I was to provide a service that set my business apart from others providing a similar service in the health & wellness industry. In moving forward and being determined to do so, I utilized talents from past experience, those from my collegiate career at the #1 HBCU, Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, Florida and explored literally every connection within alignment with my 2nd career as a Wellness professional. My ability to lend myself, my gifts to those who wish to begin a wellness journey where they are provided tools, supported and guided towards a better, a healthier, a happier life that balances some great lifestyle habits, while always leaving room for assessment and for growth. I chose to customize the client experience by creating wellness plans that are aligned with each specific client as it relates to their goals and/and conditions (medical history). I would have to say that I am most proud of the gains/goals my clients have achieved towards improving their health! Body transformations, increased quality of life, confidence and self care through a customized approach to wellness. In this journey, I am also extremely proud of my level of consistency in the face of adversity and my ability to make lemonade as sweet as my Granddads. Its been a beautiful journey, full of tears, full of growth, mistakes, lessons, elevation where I discovered me and uncovered what I am made of!

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back, I would choose the same profession I have chosen only a lot sooner, however, timing is everything so I would like to believe I was right where I needed to be at the exact time I needed to be there. I believe certain talents need time to develop, to be tested, nurtured and assessed. That is where the magic takes place. You are worth the time it takes to create your own version of a masterpiece. SimplyBeFitness is my own. Be patient and continue to cultivate your gifts!

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been my perseverance, my integrity when it comes to my professionalism and my level of knowledge as the subject matter expert. I am committed to continued education in my craft and I have learned in that the importance of quality clients over quantity. For me, it’s about the right client-coach fit through connection, community and care. Being around good energy, good people and those you connect with in a way that is positive matters. These are the types of human beings I choose to align myself in fostering quality working relationships. In providing a hands on approach to how wellness is viewed through inspiring and encouraging others to take their own steps towards a more improved quality of life alignment matters.
