We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brandy Cooper a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brandy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
I have been traveling outside the United States with my family since I was around 12 years old. When I was younger, we did a lot of trips to the mountains, beaches, different states and different amusement parks. As we got older, my parents started taking us with them to different countries. There my love for travel immensely grew. It grew so much that my major in college was International Business. I just had the urge to see the world. A lot of people would ask me about travel so one day I decided to start an Instagram about traveling. It has been a challenge to grow a following on there because I started really late in the game and it is a very saturated market but because of my knowledge and insight, a new social media platform reached out to me. As of April, I have been sharing my content on Newsbreak and receiving compensation for it. Although, I am not where I want to be, it has helped me keep going. No matter how much I make, I will always be in love with traveling, trying new foods and experiencing new cultures. As far as my structure, I try a mix of things. Videos with just music, videos of me explaining. Most of the time, I personally don’t like to talk as much as people would assume so I prefer the videos that have songs with them. I try my best to model my travel videos as if they were a music video or a movie. It may seem silly but that is usually how I view life. Someone is always watching, so why not make the content as if it is a movie. It wasn’t hard at all to launch my content; the hardest part is growing and not being discouraged when something doesn’t get the views or attention you think it deserves. You just remember why you did it and why you enjoy it, and you keep it pushing.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For people who don’t know me, I am Brandy Cooper. I am 26 years of age. I grew up in Statesboro, Georgia. I got started with travel because of my parents. Growing up we were always going somewhere, always doing something. Growing up, I was also a very active reader. So, combine the two, I had the knowledge on where we would travel and I also had the experience, because of that a lot of friends, family and even strangers reach out to me about travel. What I am most proud about is even if I have not been to a particular country or state, I more than likely still have a lot of knowledge about it. I’ve done a lot of research growing up and can tell you historical facts about pretty much anywhere.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part for me is when strangers come to my content and let me know that they will try this place, or they ask questions in regards on how to get there or where to go. I love sharing the knowledge and I love seeing more people travel. I strongly believe the world would be less ignorant if everyone took the time to go outside of their comfort zone and homeland and learn a lot more about other cultures, races and ethnicities.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal is to one day be a full-time travel blogger, as well as own my own spa and resort with a farm-to-table restaurant. I want to own something that curates the experiences I share to other people.
