We recently connected with Brandy Bradley and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brandy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Before starting B. Blooming Floral Design Studio I was working as a General Manager in retail. My career in retail was 15 years! I knew that I could not grow my business to the levels I wanted working in retail and I had to decide to make a career change.
As scary as it was I interviewed for a position that would give me the freedom to work from home and give me weekends free to take on more events. In addition I knew that I would have to find a workspace for B. Blooming and I took another risk by moving into a bigger place. I turned the basement into a work studio and I’m so glad that I did! My first event after my new job and move I met someone who gave me the advice to keep going and not give up and that was my sign that I made the right decision.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Brandy Bradley, owner and lead floral designer for B. Blooming. During the pandemic I needed a creative outlet and people needed reasons to smile so I made the decision to start my floral studio. I design custom arrangement and design both weddings and events! I love mixing color and texture to create one of a kind experiences for my clients.
I am most proud of the community B. Blooming has created! I remember when I first launched my Instagram and I started a series called Man Mondays; each week I had a man pick his favorite drink and I made an arrangement to compliment. I was so grateful for the amount of people who engaged with that content and enjoyed it! I am also proud of the relationships I’ve built with other small business owners and florists. Our community really keeps me going.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I was first getting started I did a lot of pop-ups selling premade arrangements. It was a great way to get my name out there and build relationships with other small business. My struggle with pop-ups began when I would not sell out or had low foot traffic in areas. With flowers being perishable, sometimes it was financially a burden to participate in pop-ups often. I had to pivot and really strategize when to do them and even how I can show my work, meet people without the upfront cost. I decided to focus on having pop-ups with sample arrangements and marketing flyers instead which still allowed me to connect with people.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Social media helps foster new clients for me! Not only does it help create a mini community but it’s a quick way for clients to see my work and my personality.
