Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandy Baye Robidoux. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Brandy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I think taking risks is imperative for making big strides in your career. In 2022, I took a massive leap of faith and traded my journalism career for a full-time record label position. I wanted to be closer to the art, working directly with artists every day, and seeing the smallest seeds of ideas come to fruition. It’s safe to say it was worth the risk and has been rewarding in more ways than I ever imagined.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m so proud to work in music in a digital era where there are infinite possibilities for music discovery. I think TikTok catches a lot of flack for pushing “superficial” artists to the surface but I promise you there are also infinite artists with loads of talent who have made music a career thanks to the internet. People who may not have had that chance otherwise.
Where people get lost is when they make music specifically for TikTok and it doesn’t tranlate. However, I think there’s something beautiful about making music organically, with no intention to go viral, and then seeing it go viral anyway. That’s the type of song that really resonates.
My main advice to artists? Stop making music for anyone else other than yourself. It starts with you.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
In addition to managing my own social media profiles, I also help serveral artists build their own pages. I think the secret to landing more followers is authenticity. Whether you’re a singer, a painter, doctor, cosmotologist, people hit the ‘follow’ button’ for you because they want to see under the veil into your life and truest self. If you can teach them something, and teach them about who you are, that’s what your value is.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of the industry for me will always be the live sector. It amazes me how many people it takes to put on a single show – lighting directors, sound techs, tour managers, security, the fans etc. But it’s always worth it in the end. The way live music can heal is magical.
