We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brandon Wolucka a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brandon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s one of the most important lessons you learned in school?
I moved to San Francisco from a small town in Northern California in 2010 to start college at SFSU. New school, new city, all new experiences for me. School wasn’t that difficult for me but college proved to be another test. No one really guiding me through it or forcing me to be there. I had to visit teachers office hours, chase down advisors, take summer school classes and take classes on 4 different campus’. If this is something I wanted to finish, it was up to me. This is where I learned the perseverance it took to become a small business owner. Whatever it takes to run this business, I will do.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got my degree in exercise science and started personal training at a gym in San Francisco. I decided I wanted to train athletes and move to San Diego. Like many others, Covid had a major impact on my life. I lost multiple training jobs and decided to start my own company. After a few years I was able to take over a small location in North Park and now have moved to a larger space here in North Park. What sets us apart from other gyms is we offer detailed training programs for athletes and non athletes, along with recovery services included cold plunge, sauna, stretching and more. We want to take the guess work out of your life when it come the fitness.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Aside from being a knowledgeable trainer, being able to connect with my clients. Getting to know my clients and let them know that I care. I once heard a quote, “they don’t care what you know, until they know you care.” My favorite part of my job is see others succeed. When clients know that’s my objective, they become more invested.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I’ve been able to build my clientele in a few ways, but nothing has worked better for me than word of mouth. When a client performs well on the field or starts to show muscle definition, people take notice and ask questions. So I offer great deal to bring a friend or free workouts so people can see what it’s like to train at Coach B’s. Then it’s on me to get them to come back.
