We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brandon Tucker. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brandon below.
Brandon, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
I remember vividly wanting to capture the moments to show people “Look! this is right in front of us we just have to pay attention”. Once figuring out a camera existed and what they do, I couldn’t put it down! I wanted nothing more but to show people what I saw. When figuring out what I wanted to go to school for I instantly knew that photography was the way to go and getting to college I added graphic design to those sets of skills. Not only do I think capturing moments is amazing but creating them from scratch by using photos or drawing your own is equally as amazing to me. I think I know I could succeed in the media arts business because of my passion and eye for it. I can’t wait to see how far it goes.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My goal has always been to be able to work for me and do what I love while making it a career simultaneously. During early childhood, I would always take my time looking at nature and my surroundings; seeing the beauty in it. Eventually, when getting to high school I started going out and taking pictures of anything that caught my eye. Seeing how much I loved it I knew I would have to make it my career! Providing photos for people or companies that want their “moments” captured. I started becoming more fun and profitable. That’s when I knew I was in the right field. What sets me apart from others is my people skills. Many people are camera shy and scared to take photos but I’ve always made it a good experience for my client. They get comfortable with me and the camera, we always get great results, and they get their photos back quickly. I’m most proud of my brand though. Having my own LLC and working for me with nothing but great feedback helps me keep going!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I always look ahead and I’ve said to myself multiple times that I want to be able to do this 20 years down the line just like how I am now. That’s my biggest goal; I want longevity in it because my passion for it is immense.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest thing I’ve had to unlearn was how fast I give the photos to the client. I say this because in my early work I can tell my editing is a little rushed because of how fast I was trying to send the photos back to clients. I realized that it’s way better to give yourself that extra day to edit before you send anyone your final products because that’s how your company is reflected.
