We were lucky to catch up with Brandon Snow recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brandon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you’ve thought about whether to sign with an agent or manager?
“If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want go far, go together.” When I was one of twenty artists, out of thousands of entries, to be featured in a regional exhibition at the Ao5 Gallery my art career was changed instantly. The Ao5 Gallery had been on my radar for years prior due to their longevity and reputation. I regularly submitted new work for reviewal, attended openings, and even worked a few doors down from the gallery at a boot store for years before I finally got my first piece of work on the walls.
At that opening reception, I was finally able to introduce my work, in person, to Todd Gresley, the Gallery director at Ao5 Gallery. Little did I know, Mary, the Sales Lead of the Gallery had been following my work for years. The combination of being selected for the Regional Exhibition and her support I earned the opportunity to have my first, of now six, solo feature. I took every opportunity and treated it like it was make or break. I never got comfortable my roster spot and never forget that there are thousands of entries a year from artists trying to get their work on the walls my work is on. That tenacity and dedication is why I am still represented by the Ao5 Gallery.
Brandon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Black and White photographs, hand printed through gritty, large format, silk screen printing, really big. That is what gets me excited. That is what I am all about. It is extremely difficult which is why I can count on one hand, past and present, artists, including Andy Warhol, who have made this their main focus and discipline.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Inspire others to not give up on their dreams, really. “Keep the Dream Alive.”
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Connecting with others, near and far, through just the photographic image.
