Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandon Siebert. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Brandon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission statement is “Helping kids keep that inner child alive and smiling!” I have always felt that each and everyone of us has an inner child inside of us, and somewhere along the way as we grow older we seem to lose that inner child and playfulness. So my goal with these parties was to let the kids be active as well as strengthening their abilities in balance, agility, strength and overcoming obstacles! You can really tell when a kid is in the moment and enjoying what they are doing. And what better way to celebrate a birthday with your friends while running an obstacle course and smiling while doing it.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started teaching martial arts around 14 years ago and became an instructor 12 years ago. I really enjoyed working with kids and adults to keep them active all while having a good time and learning a skill. I used to set up obstacle courses for our students and one day a parent asked if we did parties for birthdays. At the studio I thought at we were not able to hold birthday parties there, so Ninja Dude parties was born! Basically what I do is I come to a clients house or a local park and set up a ninja style obstacle course. These are obstacles including balance beams, climbing walls and other agility obstacles. Depending on which Party package the client chooses the kids can also learn to break a wood board. These obstacles can be related to real world situations when the kids get older. So the kids are not only having a blast on the obstacles, they are also learning how to overcome an obstacle that is in front of them and may be difficult to conquer. I think what sets me apart from other birthday party companies is that I am 100% involved with the interaction of the kids. I am right there alongside of them cheering them on and encouraging them to conquer each obstacle.I truly feel that I was meant to be a teacher/instructor because of the great joy I get out of our interactions!
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Ninja Dude Parties started out as a side hustle to be done once or twice a month. At the time I had a full-time job in the construction industry. As I kept working and construction I realized I wasn’t getting the same feelings of accomplishment as I was with the parties. I feel like the parties have way more interaction with people, not only the birthday kids but their friends and the parents of those friends as well. There has not been one party where a parent has come up to me and mentioned that this was the coolest birthday party they’ve ever been to! I have even had some of them mention that this is such a great idea and they wish they would have thought of it.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media is a tough one, the one thing that I have learned from creating a social media page for my business is to be active if not daily at least a few times a week. And if you have a personal social media page I have found that it helps to cross promote on your personal page since usually you have more followers in the beginning. You want to make sure that you are posting things that are relevant to your business and our eye-catching to your viewers.
