We recently connected with Brandon Roland and have shared our conversation below.
Brandon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
So from high school I started taking arts and graphic arts classes which really ignited my fire to create. So I took art classes as electives I think every year in high school haha. When I wasn’t in school I would doodle and draw on things whether it be spray paint or pen on paper, I literally just wanted to draw cool/funny things.
Fast forward to 2017, this is the first time I pick up a camera. I originally got the camera to take photos at the motocross tracks for my friends. Shortly after, I would say I was one of the top motocross photographers in my state which was super cool! I then randomly in 2019, I think, got asked to take photos of a friend and her boyfriend. I didn’t really know what to do shooting portraits since I always shot action sports. Turns out I took a HUGE dive into portrait photography because I loved capturing moments for people and showcasing the beauty of people. This is what has ultimately led to my path of pursuing photography as a career.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
So I would say I am a pretty outgoing extrovert personality that loves interacting and socializing with people. In my off time I enjoy hanging out with my friends, riding motorcycles, and playing with my dog Blue. One of the main things I love about photography is getting to meet all these new people and hear about them.
I got into shooting portrait photography vis a friend asking if I wanted to take photos of her and her boyfriend. Shortly after I started doing some lifestyle photos for friends and then started to venture more into the close ups and beauty portraits. As of now, I offer portrait, couples, and branding photo packages as those are the areas I excel in and really find passion.
What I offer to my clients is my attention to detail and confidence in showcasing their natural beauty. Not only that, but the experience. One thing I try to really stay on top of is the interaction with my clients, the communication and comfortability. Making sure my client is comfortable and confident in the fact what we create will be captivating.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
!000000% haha. One thing I wished I had known about earlier is having a tablet for editing. Holy cow this thing has made editing so much more efficient and effective. The fact you can be so accurate but quick rather than struggling and using the normal mouse. Honestly, having the tablet saves me hours of editing.
P.S. If you’re a photographer, get a tablet!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The absolute most rewarding part…. the light you see in someones eyes when they view the gallery of images. I can’t count how many times I have made someone feel so happy and beautiful. That to me, is the most rewarding part of photography.
