Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandon Rogers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brandon, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I’ve been making sketches since high school, editing in iMovie, experimenting constantly, and figuring things out by doing. I loved it from the start, so practicing never felt like a chore. Each video helped sharpen my instincts, and by following them, I gradually built an audience that enjoys what I do as much as I do.
Things really accelerated once I started working with other passionate professionals: costumers, makeup artists, actors, and writers. When everyone brings their own craft and a collaborative energy to the table, the work gets stronger, sharper, and way more exciting to make.
My advice to anyone starting out is to learn how to communicate with other industry professionals and build a team you trust—people who are on the same wavelength as you. Not to say obstacles will not be a part of the journey, but having that alignment makes all the difference!

Brandon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Brandon Rogers, a comedian, writer, actor, and director known for creating chaotic, character-driven sketch comedy both online and off. Over the past decade, I’ve built a universe of original characters across sketches and series that I write, direct, edit, and star in.
Comedy has always been a huge part of my life, and it came naturally to me from an early age, as I come from a family of comedians. I started filming sketches in high school using iMovie and a camera, always with the goal of turning it into a career. As I kept creating, I found an audience that connected with my work. Since then, I’ve earned over two billion views, built a community of 11 million followers, and won six Streamy Awards, including Best Comedy and Best Actor.
I voice the lead in Helluva Boss, an animated series that began online and is now a Prime Video Original. I also appear in Hazbin Hotel, the original series set in the same animated universe.
Whether it’s a five-minute sketch or a full series, I approach every project with the same intensity and attention to detail. I often play multiple characters in the same scene and stay deeply involved in every stage of the process—from writing and directing to post-production. My goal is always to make people laugh in a way that feels bold, unpredictable, and unmistakably my own.
I’m proud to have stayed true to my voice while evolving creatively. I’m always looking for new ways to challenge myself and keep delivering what my audience loves.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I didn’t have any funding when I started. I was broke, working minimum-wage jobs: front desk at a hotel, Best Buy, and a law firm for several years. Every dollar I made went straight into my videos. I lived in a tiny apartment in Koreatown, ate the cheapest food I could find, and spent nothing on myself just so I could afford to make something new every week.
There was no investor, no grant, no safety net. Just me scraping things together to buy wigs, props, or whatever I needed to pull off a sketch. My advice? Don’t blow your money on stuff you can’t afford—vacations, impulse buys, whatever. If you believe in your work, prioritize it.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
It was always my goal to build a massive audience, but I had no control over how or when it would actually grow. It took over ten years of following my intuition, staying consistent, and making the kind of comedy I believed in. I experimented with different types of videos over the years, but I kept coming back to playing characters because I loved it—and that love showed in the work.
My strategy was simple: do what feels authentic. I wasn’t chasing trends or trying to game the algorithm. I just made the kind of content I would want to watch. Audiences are smart—they can tell when something’s fake. They’re drawn to honesty and personality, and over time, the right people will find you.
My advice for anyone starting out is to make something that intrinsically motivates you. Whether your niche is fitness, cooking, storytelling, or anything else—if you’re not into what you’re doing, your audience won’t be either. You have to love the process before anyone else will love the product.
