We were lucky to catch up with Brandon Perez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The mission has always been to make an impact on as many lives as possible.
Ever since a kid, all I’ve wanted to do is help people and make a difference in this world. When I decided to join the military, I wanted to become a combat medic in the Air Force. I knew it was a dangerous job and the chances of death could be high. I felt it would be an honor to make the sacrifice and if it meant my life in exchange to help someone else come home, I’d be grateful for the opportunity. Things didn’t go as planned and my career took a different path. Nonetheless, God put me in positions to help people in ways I never imagined. Fast forward through the many things I’ve done in life, I’m grateful to say that I’ve always been blessed to be in positions to help others. It turned out to be in such a different way than I wanted to but God has a plan for me and I’ve learned to have faith in the things I cannot see. Each and everyday, I pray for the opportunity to serve others and help those in need even in the smallest of ways. Everything I’ve done and continue to do, focuses on the impact it’ll have on the community, the team I build and my family. Present day, I’m making a sacrifice that’ll impact me for the rest of my life and those closest to me. I cannot say what it is just yet but I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to be able to do so.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Brandon and I am a Navy veteran and entrepreneur. I’ve been in business in the South Bay for over eight years since the age of 20 years old. I started with a marketing company which I created while still in the Navy and have gone onto owning a couple gyms and a real estate investment company. Recently, I opened the Sandbox Fit Club. SANDBOX Fit Club is a unique gym experience where you don’t have to deal with the hassle of big corporate gyms, unfriendly staff, and so much more that comes with big box gyms.
I’m most proud of the environment that we’ve created within the community. It brings me joy to see members coming together every day, making new friends & building new connections all while under one roof.
The gym can be intimidating many times for new gym goers and even those who are more experienced. What I’d like for anybody who is reading this to know is that it doesn’t matter whether you are beginner or an expert, at the Sandbox we build each other up, we help each other out and make our community a better place for all.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In my seven-ish years in business, I’ve done quite a number of things. While in the Navy, I was a structural mechanic on airplanes, then went onto creating a marketing company, focusing on creating digital content. After 2 years of being in the marketing business, I purchased Shift South Bay, my first gym. The gym for me had always been therapeutic so it’s been a fun experience owning a gym. I always wanted to get into real estate but knew it required capital so eventually the time would come. In 2021, I launched Bluejacket Inc. and since then have pivoted multiple times on investment strategies, market conditions, and so on. Today, my latest venture is Sandbox Fit Club. With The Sandbox, I’ve honed in on creating an experience that I feel the market is missing. Individuals all over crave connection, want to become a part of something and feel like they have a community to lean on. The Sandbox was created to be just that within the fitness industry. Taking Gym Culture from what it’s traditionally been in the corporate world to what I have envisioned is challenging. Nonetheless, I love a challenge and love to force myself to grow. I know I will continue to invest in new ventures that focus on creating a better experience than what’s currently available in the marketplace.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
This is one of my favorite topics. I believe I’ve built a great reputation off of being kind and helpful to everybody I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. It isn’t a tactic or a marketing strategy, it’s simply who I am. I find joy in helping others in any way possible. I ask God to give me opportunities to help somebody each and every day and can’t wait for the next opportunity to come up. In business, I’ve always focused on the experience that people have inside of the gym or inside of a new property. I think in the mind of a consumer and build businesses to make the experience better. Overall, I believe the experience is the most important part for a consumer because they’ll always remember how they felt when they walked into your place of business.
