We were lucky to catch up with Brandon Ortega recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brandon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
As a kid, at least in my case, I would mindlessly watch so many things. I came up with my channel name “Refreshers” after talking with an old friend about a TV show I use to watch as a kid. I use to watch this TV show all the time, but just could not remember the name or plot points to save my life! Only small details here and there. The conversation I had with my friend is what helped spark an idea for a YouTube channel. That is when I came up with the name “Refreshers”. The same friend who I had this conversation actually ended up being the one to help me with the channel art and logo! His name is Alex Kennedy and I just want to make sure he gets a shout out because he helped make an idea become reality!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Genosan and I am a variety content creator. I added variety, because I tend to get involved in as many different things as I can. What I love about content creation is that it can but doesn’t always have to be centered around one specific thing. I make all different forms of content from goofy gaming clips with my friends on tiktok to semi-deep dives into older media with Refreshers, but I am also the business operations director over at Nubeview Productions. Under Nubeview, I was given the chance to write and direct my first mini-series called “Servitor”. It was an amazing experience, and it has given me a new perspective on how I want to handle my own content going forward. I like creating things I find fun and interesting that I can share with the world.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
It took me a while to realize this, but working a normal 9-5 day job just isn’t for me. As I got older, I started asking myself what really makes me happy in life. So I posed a question to myself, “If I was on my death bed right now, would I be happy with the things I have done in my life?” and the honest answer to myself was no. I am not sure what its like to find your purpose, but I feel like I captured that feeling once I was real with myself about what I wanted in life. I care tremendously about the people I keep close, if there is even a slight possibility of making life easier for them by finding a way to succeed at my own goals then why not pursue it with everything I have to give?

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
When I was at the tail end of finishing our mini-series, Servitor, for Nubeview, I had a surreal moment. I thought back to how something so small and random that occurred in my apartment sparked the idea for Servitor. Not only that, but looking back to see what it took to actually bring the idea to life was an eye-opening experience for me. Some of the most rewarding things for me as a creative are seeing an idea, big or small, being brought to life!
