We recently connected with Transcendent Band and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Transcendent, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
It took me about 6 years to learn how to play guitar the way I do today. I incorporate a lot of different techniques that I’ve learned over the years in my genre of music. It was difficult getting started but got easier along the way. Including arpeggios, tapping, playing notes while holding a bar chord. And most people admire the fact I can play the difficult style while being able to do vocals. My other craft I had to learn was screaming, the vocal fry came very easy to me at first and eventually was able to do a false chord a long the way. It took me about 3 years to really become good at it.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I fell in love with music when I was really young and had a strange passion for it. I always wanted to write my own. All three of us knew we wanted to be a musician from a young age for different reasons. What we share in common is the fact that we want to make our music for entertainment, helping people who may be going through the same issues as us, and of course reaching success (wanting the world to know our name). Our musical style comes from the different backgrounds of what we listen to. Every one of us listens to metal but Joey listens to mostly thrash metal; I listen to mostly 2000’s metalcore, and Leo listens to Jazz and Hardcore/Deathcore which is all implemented into our music. While Brandon is the main songwriter including the lyrics all of us have a say and impact on how we want the songs sound when finished. But yeah our main goal is provide music that comes from the heart and music that is of quality to reach a wide fan base
How did you build your audience on social media?
We started from nothing on social media. But what really helped us so far was the fact that we did a lot of live performances which gave us enough content to post about. Especially when you’re performing with bands who already have a following it’s much easier for those audiences to find us as well. Another thing is to always announce your socials after you perform and connect with the audience most of the time you’ll talk to a few people who want to follow you, and with enough performances you’ll gain a following. Word of mouth helps too because the people who are already following you will tell their friends about you as well. Post content whenever you can to connect with your audience and use the tools provided to your advantage. A big one was boosting our posts on Instagram which you can do if you have a business account and it will reach a wider audience for the duration of time you choose. It does cost some money but it’s worth it. That’s what we’ve done so far but we are definitely still learning how social media works and the algorithm behind it. I’ll end this with saying that connecting with your audience is the main goal.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Something I believe is usually hard for non-musicians to understand would be how much time and effort it takes to actually keep making music and performing and marketing. I’d definitely say it’s a second full time job for me to manage and be a part of this band. One of the things I live by is to never give up on my music and what I’m passionate about. It’s very difficult to keep going but you can’t let the obstacles and stresses stop you from doing what you love. In addition to that our audience, even if it’s just a local scene currently, depends on us to satisfy them with new shows and new music and it’s up to us to meet their demands to the best of our ability. It’s one of the many responsibilities of being in a band. x
